Karl,

Feel free to ask to John if he can send the old original case to Germany.
If it's possible, this one is for you. ;)

J :)

That's also why I love O's and the OFC. ;)

I'm very happy for you Karl!!

I hope that John will not forget to send you only the case without the #22... :  :D

Last Saturday I received a letter from Mrs. Viola Carney, who was the owner of the Balladeer and ephemera mentioned in this thread. Mrs. Carney was an Ovation factory worker in 1966. In her letter she talks about buying coffee for Josh White and some of her other experiences at the factory, which at the time was in the old Fuller Brush building.

I don’t know about you guys (and gals), but I think this letter is pretty neat and I just had to share it with you. Think about it, this very dear lady may have sanded the top of your shiny bowl Balladeer or glued the binding on your Josh White model. How cool is that?

Thank you Viola, and God bless you too.

Wow Nick, that is just amazing! Thanks for sharing that. She probably would be shocked to discover that she is now a celebrity herself, at least here on the OFC. You're right, she may have personally worked on many of our favorite guitars!

…and it's such a nice letter, too! Viola Carney, we love you!

Too bad the little guy hadn't caught the guitar bug...didn't he turn out to be a gas station attendant when he grew up?

Thanks for sharing, Nick!

That is a treasure!
Am I the only one that finds it encouraging that you can enjoy the chemicals that you work with and still live to be 88 years old despite it?

Al - She would be a prime candidate for an interview for the BOOK!

I had the same thought. And based on her note, I'd say she's no worse for the wear. Funny stuff.

Now my Dlx Balladeer has an original home. Nothing to go on tour but a very nice vintage case. Thanks Jerome and John for your kindness!

Karl,

I'm very happy that the case is well arrived.
You now owns one of the oldest Ovation case known and it fits perfectly to your guitar!!! ;)

At this time, the Balladeer #22 should be on the way to France after a short stop at the Factory for some very small works.
It's a long trip and I cross my fingers to get it safe.
I hope to get it before two weeks and if she's there before 20 March, one of the very first to play it will be a well known "ugly English". :D :D :D

John told me that it's a great sounding guitar and you can imagine how I'm impatient to get it.

To complete the story, here are 2 docs that Walt was kind enough to send me after the sale.
I really love these docs because they are from the very very early days and this guitar was one of the first to leave the Bloomfield's Factory.
It was 44 years ago and I was not born yet... ;)

J :)

I'll have to pay 23% for taxes and fees to the customs services when she will be arrived in France.
And not on the original price from 1966... :D
But this guitar deserves some efforts. ;)
