I recently purchased an Ovation Standard Elite 6868AX and love it! I am primarily an electric player and was looking for an acoustic with low action and cutaway so I could play up the neck.
I used to own a Fender Stratacoustic Deluxe which I liked but traded away soon after I bought as I needed a power amp more. The Fender was a decent guitar. It had an electric guitar neck which made it nice to play. It also had a Tele "lipstick" pickup by the neck and the Fishman preamp allowed you to blend it with the bridge piezo.
Before that I owned a Godin A6. It was OK. I was not very impressed with the sound of the Godin although it did play fairly well. I attached a Roland GK-2A synth pickup to it so I could use my old Roland GR-1 guitar synth with it.
Before that I owned a Kramer Ferrington. It played OK but the electronics were garbage.
None of those other guitars comes close to the experience of playing my Ovation. What a wonderful guitar. I have trouble putting it down. Anyone who has seen and heard it also expresses their love for it.
I never knew these beauties had such awesome action all the way up the neck. This model does not have a center hole which I love because I always tend to drop my pick into them. lol
Since I bought it new I have been hesitant to put the GK pickup onto it. I had it attached to the Godin with Scotch double sided tape and I was able to get that off without too much trouble. Still I am hesitant. I am sure I will get over that soon. ;-)
That's my Ovation story so far.
I am considering an acoustic preamp. I am particularly intrigued by the BBE Acoustimax. If anyone is using one of those with an Ovation I would love to hear what your experience with it has been like.
