I always listened to Zappa in my younger days just for the funny and shocking lyrics. I did not appreciate his musicianship until more recently. He really was a fantastic guitarist and musician and composer. FWIW.... I wish he took the time to do just one serious album of progressive rock work with some of these guy's he had together back then. His humor and overall quirky view of life (of course) made him what he was "a musical genius" but I also think it got in the way of some amazing potential as well.
