I was looking at some deals on Ovation guitars and found that the price has really dropped on the 1771LX standard Balladeer. $699 at some places. I have always wanted an Ovation to take along with me in my truck as I don't want to mess up a more expensive guitar. I have looked thru your forum here and have not found any info on this model. Is this one to stay away from or would any of you recommend it. Thanks

I thought we just had a discussion about what a great deal those were, but it might have been about Elites.
The prices have dropped because Ovation is moving production of the standard models to Korea. They are a good deal while they last.

Not just a good deal, but a great guitar! It could grow on you and surpass those other "more expensive" ones. :D

Second that.
For what you want to do with it, that's a very good guitar.
If you run across and EliteT model and are okay the looks, it is also very highly spoken of here.
Lot of Bang for the Buck!

The question should be, does anybody know anything negative about these guitars. And I doubt it.....

I wish I could spend $699 on a guitar to just "throw in the truck"!

Thanks for the fast replies. I just ordered the 1771LX. I think I will be happy with it. I love my other guitars but things can get bumped around a bit in the cab of a semi truck. I have never nicked the top of a guitar but the backs and side have suffered on my last truck guitar which was a Guild D-40 which is now a pile of scrap wood. Went home for an emergancy forgot to take the guitar out and it sat in the truck for 3 days in -20 deg weather. Need less to say it was destroyed.

-20 degrees in the cab of a semi? Sounds like you might be one of those Ice Road truckers.

Ovations will take alot of abuse.
That being said, one of my favorite sayings is....

You can screw up an anvil if you try hard enough.

Nice grab.
I know you'll be happy with it.

Although the back will be fairly indestructable, the top and neck might not last 3 days in -20 weather. I was born and raised in Milwaukee. I thought the weather was pretty mild there...after we moved to North Dakota.

I love mine...

And quite honestly, I've been looking to replace it with something more "high end" like a nice mid priced Martin D-16 or 18. Everytime I get the itch I go to guitar center and play a bunch of wood boxes, Taylors, Taks, Ibanez. About 10-15 minutes worth of wood boxes and I usually end up thinking "Gosh! I really love my 1771LX". Can't be beat for the price.
