Joined: February 2010 Posts: 79 Location: Virginia | I would to customize my 1597 all flat black. I know the appliques will come off, just leaving the holes. After that, can Mother (or someone who specializes in custom work get the binding and the top flat? AM I asking too much? I am weighing the cost of doing this versus building from scratch and I think a mod puts me ahead. THanks for any input

If it shines, paint it black. brushed nickel or stainless tuners, black nut and saddle. flat clearcoat on the head I know some guys are appalled by this thread, but this is simply about getting the guitar you want. I have seen 10 bucks worth of rattle can "dress up" a 10,000 vintage bagger. As far as affecting sound, I'm not so sure even the most discerning ears in the room would notice a difference. I've gigged with lots of guys with stickers and decals all over their acoustic sticks... with veneer splits and waves across the face of their wood tops... and you wouldn't know it by what's coming out the whole. I have worked on custom fishing rods and I PROMISE I wont get down to the graphite. I made that mistake ONCE and learned my lesson. Cost for this will be under 850 it if do the work... guitar, hardware, and all. Guys who like to wax tanks and polish chrome (guys who call themselves "outlaws") will always scoff at ratters. I'm cool with that.

The newer ones are made out of country now, but I think you can pick a USA made one for about $500. Your original idea is probably an easy one for the MS, and will probably be close to the same or a bit more. I'm not up on the 1597s, but it'e probably a better guitar than the T. Just throwin' out some options. Good Luck

I am not brave enough to have a mural/Tattoo put on the top, that is a total "what-works-for-you-never-sell" kind of thing. If yoy feel the need for such self expression get a $500 Elite T and go bravely. If I ever get the T12 back I sent to upper NY I intend to let my Grandson do some finger painting. And again... Life's too short to play what everbody else is playing!

I tried it on one of my grandkids last week and he's still dark flat black! Norse(just kidding...hey Whatever floats your boat I guess....I hear all the time how goofy Ovation players are with all the fancy color schemes Ovations come in)man1
