One of the Adamas' I purchased recently seems to have been stored hanging on a wall and is rather dusty.

Does anyone have an effective (and above all... SAFE!!) way of cleaning the CG top and bowl? My gut instinct is, that a light wipedown with a slightly dampish soft cloth would probably be OK, but it would be good to hear from other owners that have already done this (or something else that is effective...) before I try cleaning it.

Better SAFE than SORRY, right?

Thanks.

Yes, a damp rag works fine. But Dunlop 65 is the best stuff to use. YMMV.

Bobbo's right again (?). Dunlop 65 is great if you need a little deeper cleaning. For a textured top, you can even use a soft brush. After cleaning the top, I usually use a little fret board oil on the eppies and bridge too.

OK... Pledge I have lots of, but to be honest that scares the hell out of me. There are so many varieties and most commercial dusting products contain alcohol and surfactents (a fat based lubriquent... sounds yummy doesn't it, lol). My experience with exotic materials tells me you rarely get a second chance if you make a mistake. I once had a high-tech plastic product (a piece off of a computer...) dissolve before my eyes (... like just evaporate!!) when I used the wrong product to try and glue it.

Dunlop 65?... Not familiar with it. A type of guitar polish? Anyone have a link?

Thanks...

Dunlop 65 Available at pretty much any online music equipment retailer.

The only plastic on Os and As is the saddle. Not sure what exactly it's made of, but it's not a form easily dissolveable by common solvents. An Adamas top is birch sandwiched between carbon fiber impregnated with a resin, then cured in a vacuum press at high temperature - pretty much impervious to anything you can get your hands on. The bowls on Adamas are injection-molded Lyracord, also impervious to everyday solvents.

A strong solvent might dry out an ebony fretboard or a hand-rubbed neck. Adamas walnut fretboards are resin-impregnated and impervious to solvents. Gloss necks are catalyzed polymer coated and also impervious to all but the strongest solvents designed for finish stripping.

You have nothing to worry about with common household cleaning agents.

Good to know!! Just ordered some Dunlop 65 on EBAY... Looks like a good product from what I've read (here and elsewhere...), so will give it a try.

Thanks for the advice!!

After cleaning the top, I usually use a little fret board oil on the eppies and bridge too.
You might want to be careful using various oils around the tops...they do not react well to it and it can damage the textured tops...This was discussed a while back..perhaps you can do a search: I believe it was Dave (Gallerinski )who brought this to our attention...although it may have been one of his other persona's: standingovation, tupperware, etc.

I did a search on various keywords for the thread MusicMishka mentioned and didn't find it. If anyone knows where to look could they re-post the relevant bit here please...

Thanks

All the owners manuels for Adamii just say to use a lint free cloth to wipe down the top. We've discussed this in the past and it seems to me that the consensus is if you need to clean something off, just use a damp rag. I wouldn't use anything else.

Here's a link to the first and best owners manuel (can't get the url feature to work)

Manuel is the same guy who tells me when I turn on the heat or A/C fan in my car. It's a German car, so I was surprised to see it had a Spanish fan in it.

Geez, my AC in the car is usually run by one of two guys,...Max or Norm.

As far as the eppies, they shine up nice with Dunlop fret board oil, and I really can't see a cured carbon fiber top reacting in any way to mineral based oil. Like G8r said, it's pretty much impervious to anything you could get your hands on. Now the paint finish on the carbon fiber is another story, but oil shouldn't be an issue there either. I've never had a problem with it anyway.
The older Adamas models have fiberglass bowls which are sprayed with paint. I would think strong solvents (acetone or lacquer thinner) may affect the paint but not the structure of the bowl. As long as whatever you're using doesn't get you high when you open the bottle, you're probably safe using it on the top.
