| I have a string that buzzes when I pluck it hard. Its only when its plucked "open". Its my 2nd string -"treble string"- Can this be fixed? And does anybody know if Guitar Center could fix it? Thanks! |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Another thing you could check is the jack. I recently had a guitar with a rattle and couldn't find it until I took the hatch cover off and found the jack was rattling on the inside. Just a little bit of felt around it and it's all better now. |

Location: Jet City | +1 on strap buttons, but check the lock on the strap too (if you have dunlop straplocks)
That little button on the locking part is quite often a culprit. |

Location: Michigan | Check the truss rod cover if you have one, that about drove me crazy one time.
Are you sure it is not a fret buzz? If if buzzes open your nut is likely too low.
Weird things happen especially as the weather changes. I had buzz on my G string when I was capoing at the 7th fret. It took me a day to realize it was my Low E string vibrating against a fret on the nut side of the capo and it had nothing to do wit the G string. Go figure. |

Location: Montana | Check your nut. If the nut is cut a little too deep then it will tend to fret buzz more when struck open than when fretted. I know you say it is not fret buzz but to me the fret buzz at the nut end sounds different than what I am used to at the other end and it can be hard to detect it. Tweaking the truss rod may help this. If not, some recommend filling the slot with a paste made from superglue and powdered bone and then re-cutting the nut. For me, this is time to take it to a guitar tech ...
I had a recent buzzing that I couldn't find until I finally got frustrated and removed the strings - at which point the nut fell off. It had come unglued and was only held on by string tension. Simple fix with wood glue. But in this case all of the strings were buzzing. And now it is fine ... |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | The way to tell if it is the nut and not a loose part rattling is to check and see if you get the rattle when you play the third string, fourth fret. If the same note rattles, you know it's not the nut, but something else causing a vibration. |

The B string tends to wear down the quickest it seems. |

| I had a buzz from the open G on my 1621-4 a couple of months ago - couldn't find anything so I gave the guitar a good shake which fixed it - probably the cable inside going to the jack as I could hear it moving around when I shook the guitar - anyway it's fine now and no more buzz. |

It could be the string itself. I changed strings (and brand) recently on my Celebrity. The B and G both buzzed open like crazy. Made some adjustments, no luck. Took it in to my luthier, he re-adjusted it and said... change the strings back to what you had before. For some reason, the guitar did not like that brand. So I did, no buzz, no problem. Go figure. |
