Playing soccer as much as 3 times a week and working out at the Y at noon for 25 years got me into my 50s in pretty good shape. Surprisingly, I never blew a knee in soccer, although I had a broken arm and ribs and many sprains and stitches. Then soccer quit me and I picked up golf again. I haven't had any injuries from golf like I had from soccer, but I quickly got out of shape.
The last 2 winters, maybe because of New Year's resolution exercises, I've developed pain in my right shoulder. Eventually it goes away, but then I seem to keep the weight on. I'll try to lose some weight by the time we go to the Rocky Raccoon, so I don't fit that contour bowl so well.

I feel your pain, and have tried to learn to love it. If you feel pain, you're still alive.

"Middle aged"? Only if I manage to live to 110. But then, don't you folks call Ohio the 'mid-west'?

In the first few minutes after regaining consciousness after an electrocution (accident, not legally mandated) I was considering that I may have lost the use of two fingers on my right and one on my left hand. First thought; Now I can play like Django!

Keep moving forward.

I think you put the hex on me Patch. Messed up my back again today but I think I caught it in time before it turned ugly (like the rest of me)

Lord, I'm 41 and I feel 80 sometimes.
4 years in the Marine Corps, 12 years of Law Enforcement, multiple deployments overseas, etc. etc.
I feel worn out half the time.
Hell, most of you older guys (no offense intended) are in way better shape than I am and I'm in the freakin' military!
I'm debating seeking a medical retirement, I can't keep up with these kids anymore :)
I have three herniated discs that I deal with all the time (people who have not had back problems really can't understand how debilitating it is) along with the associated aches and pains I've picked up through the years, so I sympathize with you and the rest of the pain sufferers here.
TAKE IT SLOW AND HEAL.
Best of wishes for a speedy recovery.

Oh man. You have my sympathy Patch. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Is it just me, or does everyone over 60 take 2 days for the effects of over exertion to hit?

Dano,

Regardless of my age, I always hurt the most two days later. Now that I'm 62, it takes at least two extra days to realize how much I hurt day before yesterday!

Patch, I didn't see where you had tried a cortisone shot yet. Yes or no? Sure helped my golfers elbow a few years ago.

Without getting into details, let's just say that past experience has shown that cortisone and I don't get along very well. The odds are too great in my case that the benefit could be very temporary and I would need the surgery anyway.

I Just found out I have a torn rotator cuff in the other arm! Looks like more surgery in my future than I thought.

Although I really hate to see anyone go under the knife, I have several friends who recently had rotator cuff surgery and had very successful recoveries (but after pretty extensive physical therapy). I hope you get patched up good, Patch.

Oh Patch, I'm so sorry to hear it. For most people this would be a real pain in the neck, but for a musician it is more than just a hassle. You'll have to find someone to play for you for a while and just sing. Or maybe do some arranging. I wish you all the best.

I had rotator cuff surgery in October of 2007. One tendon had torn completely free, but they did the surgery arthroscopically. There were three incisions, they inserted an anchor into the bone and tied the tendon back to that.

The physical therapy is important to gain the full range of motion back. I think I went for like three or four months before my insurance ran out. It took a full year to get full range of motion and about another six months after that to get the full range of motion without pain.

But boy am I glad I had the surgery done now. I had parially torn it and lived with it for six months before it tore the rest of the way through. Then there was no question I needed help.

Now, if I'm not 100%, I'm 99.98%

Now If I could just do something about the arthritis in my fretting hand thumb.

Well, tomorrow it begins. I'll have outpatient surgery to correct the trigger thumb. If it heals as it should, I'll go in to have the shoulder repaired the first week of July.

What was the title of this thread again?
