So I bought another one.

Another Academy

My other KA-14 is white with a blue tint. I had a KA-17 with the tan top but sold it off. I wonder how many different colors these things came in?

I'm up to eleven Os and As now, not counting one I stripped for parts.

You can't tell the difference between a harp and a banjo AJ?

What is the story on these Academies?
When, how long, & where were they made?

I get conflicting info. I emailed ovation and the person who responded barely heard of them. Not faulting them, just that even they don't seem to have much info.

I've read that they were made in '78-'79, but my pastel blue (looks white until it's sitting beside something that IS white!) is dated 1981 under the fingerboard extension. Somewhere I saw a Kaman memo dated 1983 that referenced them.

The KA-14 had the aluminum neck a la Moosup Applauses with a 12 fret neck. The only wood on them was the bridge. The KA-17 had a slot head wood neck. I had one of those a couple years ago and it was 'good' but wasn't as quirky as the KA-14 so it went away.

No idea if they were made alongside the Applauses in Moosup or at the Ovation factory.

I should add that Academy guitars have been known to cause cancer, brain damage, loss of appetite, and various and sundry forms of dysfunction. I hereby volunteer to properly dispose of any and all Academy guitars. I will reimburse you for shipping.

You're welcome.
