Some of us are 'late adopters'....y'know...the only reason they have pushbutton phones is 'cos you can no longer buy a rotary phone!

(I myself have one in the garage, plugged in. When the power goes out I will still be able to phone.....um, who exactly?)

Ummmm errr.. When I was a kid, if I needed to call my parents, or a friend, I would just pick up the phone, wait for the operator to pick up, and say "this is Miles, I want to talk to my mom, she's at so'n so's house"... Or I need to talk to my friend Russell, and the call would go through.

I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad about this :(

Don't recall any operators, but the best I could do was a 4-party line when I moved to the mountains west of Denver in early 1979.

Yep, we had 4-party lines in Houston when I was growing up.....then we went to 2-party lines (which was crazy cause the people who lived across the street from us were the other party)!

It was a glorious day when we got our own private line!

Miles, were you in a small town? That might explain it.

The dealer locator on the new site doesn't seem to work. All I get is a 404 Page not found. Sigh.

I grew up in a suburb, but the address was Milwaukee 23, Wisconsin. No zips then and our first number was Flagstone4-6775. Does that mean I'm old?

Yeah, pre-dating zip codes sucks.
I was watching Hell's Kitchen the other night and a couple was celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. 50th!! Wow!!

Then I realized they were married 6 years after I was born...

O.k., I think I can win the smallest town award. We lived in Zoar, MA in the early 50's. When my parents moved out to Southern California, the population went from 7 to 2. Only the postmaster/mayor and her daughter remained.

I suppose we'd all find some comfort in living in Andy Hardy's town and time. I must admit, however, that I really like the internet, cell phones, GPS, cable TV and microwave ovens. If that means I'll have to acclimate myself to a new Ovation website, that's a small price to pay.

What I think I miss the most are the archives. I hope they get their sh*t together and get it all goin' on ... :(

It could also be that the pace of change is so rapid that I (at least) can't help thinking that YESTERDAY's new and unfamiliar hasn't had sufficient opportunity to become familiar. It's all a bit unsettling when one is constantly trying to acclimate oneself to the newly no longer new, as well as to the new.
