Location: Jet City | I keep hearing all this stuff about the FD-14. I've never seen this or heard it before, so enlighten me. How does it differ from the 6774?
It's a Folklore, right?
It seems to be held in rather high esteem around here. |

The 6774 is a great guitar... and it sounds nothing like the FD14.
Their specs from neck to body/ tops/ bowls/ nutwidth/ cutaway/ electronics are completely different...
They are related in name only... unless you just count slotted headstock and wider than 1-11/16 nut... |

Location: ms | I played Jeffs and owned yours and I agree with Jeff the neck is the only thing close to the same. If you want the Ovation sound you want the 6774. I liked the FD and would never want to offend Jeff but I like the 6774 better. I know I might be alone in this and nothing against the FD they are great I just like the Ovation sound. |

I played Dave's at his house a couple years ago, but I really didn't have time or the experience to give it a fair test. I had just received my Folklore and, like gulfcoast, I prefer the Ovation sound.
Dave started my visit by handing me a couple of Martins and then the FD14 was somewhere in those early ones. My preference, probably because I prefer the traditional Ovations, was for his John Lennon RI and I think it was an old Balladeer. I kept going back to the John Lennon and should have bought it when he sold it later.
My Folklore is still one of my favorites. It was my main selection last night. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | FD14 and 6774 are the same sport but different leagues. Nothing against the 6774, but in my opinion there is NOTHING in Ovations wood topped catalog past or present that can compare with the FD14. Dave |

Location: Jet City | I was playing mine last night too. That's why the post here. It's actually quite cool. Though I play the others more frequently, I find myself doing different things with the Folklore than I would with the others. Arranging finger picking for things I'd usually do with a pick.
I like it. Just felt like I was missing out on something with all the FD talk. |

Location: big island | i dunno, dave. have you had the chance to play a 1537 fresh from mommy with a new top and bowl? this one i just bought from glenn is phenomenal! it keeps up with my takamine bluegrass 340 in volume, woodiness and warm bass. it blows me away, quite frankly, and i'm still having difficulty setting it down. it sounds better than almost any boutique guitar i have ever played. i'm not sure what mommy did to it, but it has been nursed well. wow! |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I rarely use a pick, so a Folklore is suited to me. I do have problems playing barre chords on it, so if I play a song with a bunch of those, even if it's fingerstyle, I'll switch to a skinnier neck.
I think the FD14 has a cedar top, which is more mellow than spruce, although this gets kind of like describing wine.
EDIT: Dave probably likes wine aged in wood. I don't. Different strokes. |

FD14 was truly unique and the most woodbox sounding Ovation ever made.
1537 was probably the best wood top with the Ovation sound. |

I'm just poking you a little, Randy. Sorry. 1537's a nice guitars and yours may be something really special. If YOU like it, that's all that counts.
