Question Dave, Are the tuners also incorrect? I thought all the GC DB's had Grovers. Or were they changed at the end of the run. Of course, being an A/E also makes me wonder. The seller stated, "As I am the second owner, I am not sure if it is a stock or aftermarket pickup. It is pretty simple, and pretty flush with the guitar, and it works." I was hoping for a more accurate description but there you have it. Still worth thinking about though...

Paul; What's wrong with the headstock? Too light in colour? That could mean it has been re-necked at one time. I am curious about the TRC which doesn't look as wide as it should be...it looks more like the second, smaller version. And the case is obviously ot original.

Per the label and number, it was built between November 1968 and February 1969, within a month or two of when mine (not mine anymore as it's moved on) was built. The headstock is the wrong shape. The truss rod cover maybe too narrow at the base, but I'm not certain. The headstock has a walnut face on it, not rosewood. The tuners have the wrong mounting hole on them (they point to the side, not down straight). And it should say "Deluxe" on the face of the headstock. The top has been resurfaced. It's got an overlaid rosette and the bridge is one that didn't come into use for another year and a half after that guitar was built, and it's the walnut rounded bridge, not the rosewood five point bridge. It may be a nice guitar, but there's too much wrong with it to call it mint. Way too much....

It's a stock 1117 (pre-legend, walnut HS facing, stick on rosette) with a shiny bowl and GC TRC. A year later they changed the name to Legend. It'll probably fetch Legend money, not GC Deluxe Balladeer money.

Toby, I don't think the guitar was built in the "transition" era. The serial number indicates Dec 68 to February 69. There's just been a lot of rework done.
