Location: Delaware | Finally got a workstation to set my recording gear up on. The dining room table just wasn't cutting it ! Wating on some acoustical room treatment, I might try some of the auralex maxwall vocal booth stand mounted panels so I can move them around for recording then for mixing down. Anyone have any experience with the auralex maxwall system ?

Location: Scotland | Nice little set-up. Just a couple of points about your speaker placement. You need symetry with your positioning. The right speaker is dangerously close to a corner (just about the worst place for a speaker if you need accuracy) while the other is less close to the other corner. This will throw off the stereo imaging and give you a false bass-lift on the right side. Another good idea is to pull the whole thing away from the wall when it's in use. Ideally you need at least 3 to 4 feet of free space around your monitors to minimise any colour from the room boundaries interacting with them
This is all really basic stuff that can make the difference between good recordings and great recordings, without spending any money.
The Auralex Maxwall concept is OK, but it cannot deal with low frequency issues. Non of the foam or portable wall products can, and it's LF that always causes the biggest problems. It's good for dealing with flutter echo and provides virtual room symetry if your avalable space prevents it. The Maxwall is good for creating an acurate mixing space rather than a recording space but you could DIY a lot cheaper with a little research and planning. |

i use ESI nEar Experience 05 and they're maybe half their size, and they are good as a near field monitors.
Don't you need to drive it really loud to hear niuances? |

Yes, you are definately wrong, unless you want to quantify what you mean by "too big" Physical size is hardly a reliable way to evaluate a nearfield monitor, they come in a huge range of enclosure sizes, with just as many variations in porting, useful frequency response, efficiency, power output, cost etc, etc..... There are plenty pro nearfields which are way bigger. Physical size is about the acoustic properies of the enclosure rather that huge output, also with actives the enclosure has to be big enough to house the amplifier (or amplifiers, in the case of bi-amped nearfields. |

Location: Delaware | Yea Cliff, it is Cubebase LE, came with the interface. I like it but I'm not really familar with using any other programs so nothing to compare it to. Gotta go to work now (second shift sucks!) Catch ya later. |
