Hi everyone. I have a 1658 CL. Eveytime I tune they go down a step and make a really bad noise--almost like splitting wood. I tried to tighten them. Can anyone help?

All six tuners do that?

Could it be the strings are bigger than the slots in the Nut they are sticking?

Odd?

No its a 12 string sorry. I Just bought it in April. 4 of them do it--all on the same side. I just had a set up. Do I need new ones?

Is this a new issue? Sometimes slotheads can be tricky to string. Perhaps the strings are slipping? You might try restringing to see if the problem goes away. If you are not 100% schooled in how to lock the string down on the barrel, there's a pictorial somewhere here on the site. Someone else can point you to it ... I'm on a mobile device here and my ability to search and such is limited.

Just an idea.
