There is a 6778 LX for sale on Ebay Ovation 6778LX Standard Elite acoustic electric New

I thought the natural finish 6778 LXs had epaulets on the bass side, only. Is this O legit?

The Ovation site just shows a sunburst with epaulets on both sides.
I can't answer your question, but I don't think the full warranty will be available, since you would be the second owner.

i believe it's correct. should be the same as my 1778lx with rosewood fretboard and bridge instead of ebony and different position markers.

Same top and inlays though.

Check out musicians friend. They have photos for each finish, and the natural has epaulets on the bass side, only. That's why I'm a little wary...

I would have to say their website is incorrect.

He has ebony bridge listed on the ebay ad which is incorrect. It's rosewood.

Interesting. Apparently his guitar has 2 bridges!

· AA solid spruce top

· Scalloped X bracing pattern

· Inlaid exotic wood epaulettes

· Mid-depth bowl back

· Rosewood fingerboard and bridge

· Lightweight 5-piece advanced neck

· Dual-action truss rod

· Graphite neck stabilizers over the joint

· Dual-clamp heel block

· Original 1968 Ovation pickup

· OP Pro preamp

· 33% lighter Lyrachord GS bowl

· Ebony bridge

· Chrome tuners

Now that is interesting. Oh, I also checked GC. Same pictures as MF.

I'm totally confused now. Maybe I should just get a 1778 LX...

It also looks like his description is lifted right from the MF and GC websites.

Ebony in on the 1778lx, that and gold hardware and inlays are really the only differences.

Well, the price is considerably different.

Got it. Thanks for all of your help. I'm hoping to "officially" join this community soon, with a purchase.

I've got a 6778LX-VN, which is "Vintage Natural" finish. It only has bass side epaulets. I'm not sure what that one is in the picture unless it is a new finish option, or possibly a non-LX Elite?

I'd question it, especially given the totally unreadable sticker picture.

Also, his price seems high on the buy it now, especially without a case.

That's a nice guitar, but imho the price is too high. Really, the 1778LX is a nice guitar. It feels and sounds to me like the 6778LX, and both have the OpPro preamp. One of my daughter's friends has the 1778LX and it is a typically outstanding Ovation.

Now, I'm not a price guru by a long shot. I purchased a very nice, minty nice, 6778LX last fall for a couple hundred less than the price on the guitar you linked to. Personally, I would not pay $900 for a used 1778LX. Right now, you can get a new 6778LX for only $100 more, and it will have a full factory new warranty.

The 1778LX does offer AA grade wood on the top, vs A grad on the 6778LX. The other differences are ebony on the 1778 vs rosewood on the 6778. If you are deciding between the two models, they'll be pretty darned identical. For me, $$ are very important, so that tilts the decision towards the 6778LX.

Don't feel in a rush to buy off of eBay. Someone here will probably offer something for sale that strikes your fancy within a month or two.

BTW, I'm partial to ebony fretboards and it was a major factor (over the 6778) when I made the purchase. If rosewood works for you, go for it.

I'd also look at local retailers. We have a local place that's selling that identical one for $999 new (well it's been on the floor a while) with warranty

Thanks for all of the advice, folks. Very helpful.

What's the real difference between the ebony and rosewood fretboards?

Just took a look at some of the internet prices for new ones...possibly without the 9158-0 case.

I don't think it is too high. In fact, Rudy is soon to list his transparent red 1777LX for $900.

I have no idea as to the condition of the eBay guitar (other than listing) but if the guitar is "near-new" with the 9158-0 case - if not a great price now, will soon be as it is Pre-Fender.

Not uncommon for dealers (except Al) to substitute the intended (as on Ovation website) case for another or sell w/o case...course, they will be glad to sell you one.
