Location: San Francisco, CA | Last night (2/3/11) was an Open Mic celebration for Charlie Kaman, Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, Big Bopper, and 19 yr old pilot Roger Peterson who got in over his head flying on that terrible night 52 years ago.
Our O/M host in Half Moon Bay, CA is now Boyd Ritner. Boyd took over for our beloved host of 15 yrs, Auri Naggar who sadly secumbed to cancer two weeks ago at the age of 59. Auri will be missed but his spirit will live on forever.
Boyd (Adamas), Bobbo (Custom Legend 12 string), and I ('90 Model 1869 Custom Legend) each gave a short talk about Charlie and his many contributions to this world over a wonderful career. We were all proud to play our Ovation guitars last night in his honor.
For my set I covered "Peggy Sue", "Donna", and "Scarborough Fair". I'm sure the Kaman family must have been very pleased when Paul Simon selected his Custom Legend for the Concert in Central Park. To capture his sound at that event I used the following: Model 1869CL > BOSS DM-2 Analog Delay > BOSS CH-1 Super Chorus > '72 Fender Vibro Champ.
At the Concert in Central Park, Paul was plugged into a BOSS DM-2 Delay and then straight into a Roland JC-120. My rig gets really close to that sound. And what a wonderful sound it is!
It was just a great night over on the coast.

Location: Tennessee | It was a good night. Since Auri was such a dedicated SF Giants fan, I opened up with "Right Field" in tribute to him. Then I played "Wild World", and closed with the Wilbury tune "End of the Line". I played my 6759 CL12 direct into the house ... and it sounded nothing short of amazing. It was so fitting given the circumstances. All of the Ovations sounded WAY better than any of the other guitars played last night.
BTW, Boyd's guitar is an 1868-4 Elite, not an Adamas. Or maybe it could be, but thats a different thread. ;) |

You can find Stonebobbo on it from last night as well as some of the other performers. As he noted above, the Ovation tone beat every other guitar up there last night. Great fun!
