Location: East Wenatchee, WA | I while back I posted how the "gold leaf" paint had discolored and faded from my sweaty arm hanging over the side of the guitar.
Well...today I found the solution to any touch ups of the gold paint you may have with your 2008 collectors out there.
Krylon sells a 18K Gold Leaf "pen" at craft stores. I found my at Craft Warehouse for $9.49 (but with a 40% off coupon). The tip is a felt affair and too wide for the detail of the trim ring, however it turned out to work well regardless as the paint tends to flow into the carving. A little rubbing alcohol on a q-tip cleaned up the over lap and you can't tell it from the original (unless you are looking really, really close). Once it dries it is a perfect match. I have considered a clear coat, but since this tube will probably last 30 years, I will just touch it up on occasion or get me an arm band.
I don't see much posted about our "100" guitars lately, but am still enjoying mine. Although lately I have been lusting after a McPherson, but this will pass.

Location: Tennessee | I've used a different solution with success ... I bought a Pentouch which comes in three different tip sizes and enabled me to apply it directly into the markings on the binding without having to do any cleanup.
I got5 mine for roughly the same price at my local Michael's store. Works great. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I have some real gold leaf that I was thinking of applying to mine (when I get bored enough). I'm a bit suprised that the existing work was done so lightly. As far as the McPherson thought, I have always wanted to try one of those out too, but just as with higher-end Adamas and Ovation guitars, it's difficult to find a shop that carries them. |

Location: Colorado Springs, CO | I would like to add that the 2008 collector's Adamas is very different from any other Adamas I have ever played. It is very light weight and alive. The first time I played it I didn't put it down for six hours and then it was because I had to eat. A very modern and futuristic Guitar. Nice! |

Location: Tennessee | Nope. It's permanent ink and I haven't noticed any coming off my arm. That said, I really bought it to use on the fretboard inlays on the OFC1, which it did an awesome job of really making them standout. One application and it has stayed intact even with a fair amount of playing. The binding markings are staying put too. But just a note, this Pen-touch is gold metallic ink, not actually gold leaf. |

Location: Tennessee | I was really curious, so I looked into the Krylon pen. As it turns out, "18kt Gold" is the color, not the ingredient. It is just metallic ink too. Krylon also has a color of "Pale Gold", in addition to others. At $6 for 1/3 ounce, if they did put real gold in there, it couldn't be more than a speck. They call it a "gold leafing pen" but you're not really putting any real gold on there. Seems to be right on the edge of truth in packaging. Just thought you all would like to know so there's no misunderstanding. |
