I love my "O" but I can't get used to the guitar roll while playing. Any suggestions to help me solve this problem?

They have those $12 self adhesive pads on ebay. I have one, it works well. I haven't bothered to buy any more than the one though.

A strap works wonders too.

go to the grocery store or bed bath and beyond and buy one of those rubber, grippy placemats. cut it to fit. place it on your lap and the guitar will not move.

Don't hug it tightly with your right arm/elbow.

You don't say whether you have the problem seated or standing.

I've got no advice if it's a seated problem as I've never had a problem playing one sitting down. As long as my leg's in the right position the guitar just sits there.

For standing, some have had success by moving the strap button to a position below the neck heel to change the center of gravity. Hopefully someone can chime in with more specific instructions.

If you want to use some sort of anti-slip treatment on the treble side of the bowl, don't buy those $12 grip-things off Ebay. Find a local hardware store (I got mine at Ace Hardware) and get about a foot of 3M no-slip tape. Cut it to shape yourself and save almost $10.

A simple piece of leather works fine too, if it's slipping off your leg. Rough side to the leg, gloss side to the guitar.

After awhile those square guitars will feel funny cuz they Don't Roll Up.

If it slides around on your leg when you are sitting either get one of these...

Or get one of these...

But then you might not like it cuz you can't see the face of the guitar like you used to.

Either standing or seated, I always wear a strap when I play with my O.

I do the same thing. Always using the strap has become a habit after many years of playing a shallow-bowl Ovation. I still do it even though I now mostly play a contour-bowl Ovation, which doesn't have a tendency to roll. I actually wear the strap no matter what guitar I play if only to keep the strap from dangling because a dangling strap just seems like a magnet for accidents.

I agree with the strap idea, but would also suggest you use straplocks. Not only do they protect your investment, but they also make strap use a bit easier. A small investment that goes a loooong way.

"Use a strap".
+2 on that one...

Straplocks are an easy fit on the later O's and A's which come w/the female button attached...

Also, losing weight helps (and I know something about that).

Good luck with it...

I didn't hear any comments to the contrary so I assume you got your calendars and are completly overjoyed with them.

Brad a lot has been going on...my health most of all...finally doing better and getting stronger...it's going to take a few months.
Yes, the calendar arrived and thanks to you and Zilla: it's great and I appreciate the hard work and dedication.
I do like the format...

And Damon...it does make the ridges on the contour back catch on the belt buckles...lol

Hey Mike!
Glad to see you're about.

Larry,
Look, all these guys are lying to you, the only thing that works os to send the offending guitar to me at:
Michael R. Winters
1031 Chris.....
HA HA HA HA

Sorry man, couldn't help it.
I personally have never had issues with O's sliding around and my first one was a shiney bowl.
I despise the way flatbacks feel.
The remedies these guys are providing work just fine I'm sure but just remember, give them to me, give them to me, give them to me....
