Location: Corpus Christi, TX | Local pawn shop has a white 1866 Legend for sale. Marked at $500 but they are willing to deal.
Overall it is in fine shape except for one issue. The binding on the bass side of the neck has a crack where the neck meets the body. The fretboard extension has an upward bow on the bass side - looks like that side has come unglued.
Does this guitar have a bolt on neck and do you think the fretboard extension could be reglued to properly lay on the sound board.
Not sure if I want to take on this project but if anyone else is interested let me know and I'll see how far they'll lower the price. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I'd offer them 350. But first I'd look carefully at the top and the action all the way up the neck. Also check to see If the truss rod is intact and has room for adjustment. You would hate to get something and later find it needed a neck reset or a new top. The other stuff you mentioned sounds like fairly easy repairs. As far as the fretboard bowing, I'd give a call to a good luthier in your area. (In Austin there is Jim Webb at Austin Vintage)and here's a link to Mark Erlewine who also has a good resume: Erlewineguitars |

Location: Corpus Christi, TX | Went back to the pawn shop today and the 1866 looked so sad hanging there amongst the strat wanna bes that I just couldn't resist rescuing it. No case though.
According to the serial number it is of 1992 vintage and like I said it is in very good shape except for what apperaed to be a warped fretboard extension.
Took it home and laid a straightedge across the frets and all seems to be straight and flat.Laid the straight edge across the top and the top appears to have a slight dip along the bass side of the fretboard. Perhaps this is why the extension looks like it is bowed upward (more like a hump in the bass side of the extension)
Didn't have time for more than a cursory inspection, I'll post pics as soon as I get the chance. By the way it does have a bolt on neck.
Don't know what I'm going to do with it, at the very least it is a nice addition to the "herd" |
