I LOVE my rich booming vintage 1615! I personally have yet to hear a better 12er. There may be some out there, but not for the same price and ol' time quality.

If you ever play one, ya won't want to put it down!

I have an 1115 Pacemaker I purchased new in 1972.

I love the sound, (Louder than my 1758), They are a great guitar.

IMHO, from having acoustic (shiny bowl, GC, and CL) and a/e versions (GC and CL), there is a difference between the acoustic and a/e. Started with a dark sunburst Custom Legend 1158 in 1980 after playing a Martin D-18 for ten years.

Currently have two 1658, one 1659, one 6759, and the shiny bowl. Can't compete with the Adamas I and II 12 strings I have in projection but there is a difference in "voice" between the wood top and Adamas. Nice to sit back on the porch swing and play the Ovations.

Not my story to tell but Nils has the best value for dollars with his Pacemaker...

There is no better 12-string than an Ovation, no matter what model.

I played one from 1975-1988 often 7 nights per week and many times with other gig's during the day...my 1615-4 was a workhorse and a dependable guitar: always sounded great, and ignored the change in temp and humidity during the winters and summers without going out of tune. That one 12 string guitar along with my cutaway Legend helped me earn my living and gaveme what I asked for night after night year after year...

Well, "the third time's the charm". I had an 1115 rebuilt by the MotherShip- sent it to Jeff. Had a "headless" 1615, converted to 6-string (still a slothead, though!), sent it to another "O"-ficcionado, then acquired another 1115 that, thankfully, didn't need (much) repair. Think I've finally learned my lesson. This one stays. Great tone & projection, and built like a brick outhouse. Just don't over-torque the trussrod. I have seen several 1115's, and other 12's, for that matter, that get a bump at the base of the peghead, from trying to get a Strat-like action on them.
The opines of my esteemed colleagues are accurate- get a Pacemaker, and never let go. Possibly, the best "bang-for-your-buck" scenario that exists these days.

Got to agree, the pacemaker is the 12 to have, unless you luck into a GC like I did. I had a couple 1115's, and for the money you can't beat it. Here's a pic of one of the 1115's thats long gone, but not forgotten. Below it is the GC...

I keep my eyes open for a Pacemaker and will have one someday. But my Custom Balladeer is still the easiest playing 12'er I've ever picked up, and after playing this fella for 20 years, there aren't many guitars that sound better. I tried to sell it several times over the years, but could never go through with it. We've been through too much together, and too many memories are wrapped round its tuning pegs.

I have a '79 1115-4 that I'm in love with. I installed an OpPro and K&K pickups. It's my main guitar in any situation.

I've always had a 12 as my main guitar since '74 when I got out of Highschool and bought my first. The Pacemaker has an "old" 12 string sound...sort of jangly...not exactly the same sound you get from a new design. That's a difficult difference to explain to someone who hasn't been around a lot of 12's. Highs have a strong presence. "Harpsichord-like"?

I took this out of it's purple lined case today; tuned it up; and was in 12 string heaven for the next hour. This is the Ovation 12 string that started it all and it still has the mojo: yes, the top has a few cracks and the finish is worn but it still has a beautiful gloss back and a sound that will raise arm hairs: this is the guitar model I saw hanging on a wall in a Columbus Ohio music store in 1967/8...and I'm proud to say that I own this one!

Nope: Fugot's did not have an original bridge...I bought this one under the radar last year on the bay...it had no case (I shipped one of my black cases to the seller who then shipped the combo back to me). I then paired it with a near mint original 3 latch brown w/purple lining hard shell I had (I have an original case that came with my unplayable 1969 1115; but this is a cooler combo).
It's been ridden hard and put away wet so to speak but sounds wonderful...I'm going to keep it original: mojo and all...

Not that I would tell anyone one not to buy an Ovation 12 string. I would love to have one. But don't pass up a good deal on a Guild Jumbo 12 string. I played ever Taylor and Martin in my price range in Tennessee over several months w/ a limit of $700.00 (He was asking $1000 and came down to meet my budget or I would have had to walk away) and I thought every Guild sounded better that any of the others. The 212XL's are not the best looking 12 you can by but it had the most even tone of any I played and I play a few O's as well. I have never played or listen to an Adams but those jumbos guilds are loud.

I've never seen Adams, either. I think Eve still has it.

Guild's are great 12 string guitars: I had a very nice 1993 JF-65 with a beautiful sunburst top that sounded like a Steinway grand...it was heavy and had a wide neck: I sold it when I had a chance to bring my wife to the U.S.: it was a no brainer sacrifice...along with several other guitars ;) . I have owned and played most brands of 12 string guitars, but I've always been a great fan of the Ovation/Adamas 12 strings...and have been since I bought my first one in 1975.

Love my Pacemaker! Great sound, but everyone complains it is too loud, even when I am trying to play very soft.

Well thank you all for the family Photos and info, certainly opened a can of worms with that one,so on everyones recommendation I bought an injured one on e bay for $280 that included the case and shipping, was that a reasonable price, its a 1625-1 serial unmber 097578 ,anyone know him,.will reserve judgement on the patient till he arrives.Ialso own an old guild i,ve had forever that i bought for vast expense when I lived in Ireland,a Flinthill resonator and a washburn travel guitar that I take on my sailboat to keep my fingers out of trouble. What are the 1980 Ultras like I put a bid on one of those too can't resist a potential bargain maybe it could replace the washburn rover, couldn't sound much worse.lets hear your veiws Thanks Mel

I'm assuming your finger mis-spoke; you mean a 1615-1? Sounds like a decent deal, though. ENJOY!!
