Location: Marlton, NJ | Mike asked me to post this - his email address 'vm-cg@earthlink.net' has been hacked. Someone has been sending around an email saying that he was traveling in the UK and was mugged. The email requested that money be sent via Western Union. He's in the USA and is fine... don't send money. I believe that he is ditching that email account for a new one. |

My email provider asked me not to use the account for several days and I wanted to get the truth known hopefully w/o all the flack...right...
It appears that they got in through a recently installed Norton360 children's "safe browser" that used IE instead of FireFox which I always use. There are over 120 security breach portals in IE. They were able to change my password on my email account, access my entire email directory and send the bogus email...business/family/everyone...I was away from home when I received a call alerting me this and I called Mike and left a message. Thanks Mike for your help. I spent all day running security and recovery software on my three computers to get rid of any threats and programs that may have been left by the hackers. Earthlink is busy tracing the hackers and has asked me to not use my email for 72 hrs. So this was a way to try and let folks know.
It can happen to anyone...plenty of pariahs out there. |
