Location: Chicago | Jeff and I have a nice evening gig in a Chicago plaza next week. Problem: no power. We GOTTA have the Bose L1 or Fishman. What are our options, Temp or anyone who knows these things? Most generators I've seen are LOUD. Is there any realistic battery alternatvie? |

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | I own a 3750 watt Powermate by Coleman that I've used several times for this purpose. It is noisy, so I stuck it behind or around some type of barrier, like a masonry wall, then ran a 100' very heavy duty power cord to the stage. I then used surge protectors off the main power cord. It worked fine. Once the amps were turned on and the music started, the generator was unnoticeable. Even during dialogue between numbers, the generator was nothing more than "white noise." |

Location: Scotland | I know very little about Generators. Only thing I do know is that for sound equipment it is crucial that you use a sine wave generator, not a square wave generator. |

1000 watts might be too light...

Location: Delaware | Those Honda suitcase generators are very quiet compared to others. I'm often around the 2000W models at work. I don't think it would be too much of a problem. I looked in my Bose L1B1 owners manual and the power stats are "USA/Canada 100-127V~50/60Hz 1400W, Peak inrush power 32A @ 120V~60Hz". Looks like you better get the 2000W or more. Hope that helps !

Location: Chicago | That's good advice! We have been talking about scaling down to two small amps (e.g. Fishman Loudbox 100). I found a place to rent, so we're set. The event is the SUMMER SOLSTICE festival. We'll be on a large square in front of a Cathedral. The streets downtown Chicago will be blocked. Hence, the problem with power AND the need to amplify. Two Ovations, even cannons, will be drowned out without a little "boost"! |

Location: Chicago | Thanks for the help, folks: we ended up renting the Honda EU2000i generator. The gig was great: over an hour in the thick of the Summer Solstice Festival Finale (Make Music Chicago) that ended just minutes before the fierce storm (6/21). |
