Location: Hot Springs, Arkansas | Hello, all. I just acquired a very sweet Glen Campbell model on Ebay with an original neck and a new (2005) body and top. The action is perfect and it has a very nice sound. However, the fretboard is very grimey. I have looked and it seems like the preferred way to remove the grime is to use 0000 steel wool, wipe it down and apply a little lemon oil. My question is: is there a better way to clean the board and will the steel wool damage the inlaid MOP markers? Any ideas, comments appreciated. Location: Hot Springs, Arkansas | Thanks for the link. It is the stacked vol/tone and it's on the waist. Wish it were the OP Pro! I've wanted a GC model for years. I remember seeing one on Ebay years ago with the GC inlay on the fretboard and I kicked myself for missing it. Maybe someone here wound up with it, so it's still in the family, I hope. Anyway, this is a nice, nice guitar and I'm happy with it. I haven't had an Ovation in a while and when I heard of GC's current condition I got misty eyed and started looking again. Location: Germany, where delicious wine is growing (Rheinh) | I've Mario's old 1627 purchased from Patch last winter as a project guitar. She is one of the latest from 1985, also with the knobs on the waist and the Kaman-Bar neck. I've refurbished her and upgraded to the OP-Pro-Studio with XLR.
She has a killer sound plugged in, really close to the 1881-NB5.

Location: Germany, where delicious wine is growing (Rheinh) | I've made a template for the hole, you only have to find the right position. That I've messured on a guitar which has it originally. I cut out the hole with a "Dremel". IT's not very difficult. I think I've upgraded ten guitars now. You can see some of them on my Ning-page.

Location: Tennessee | Edited. Sorry. Never mind. I posted something else but needed to edit my post. I thought you had the stacked knob preamp on the top shoulder. The new models they produced at the time of the reissues are very good. But it looks like you have something else but I can't tell exactly what it is. |

Location: SoCal | Bobbo, old neck on a new body. My guess, since the original guitar probably had the stacked volume/tone on the waist of the guitar, is that it's from about 1984-5. They were doing that at the time and it was right before the OP24 came out.
When they put on the new body, the preamp was put in exactly like the old one (probably)..... |

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | If the fret board is really grimey, I clean the frets first with a tooth brush and wd-40. Let it dry, then us naphtha and a paper towel. It's now clean. Then if it's not maple, use mineral oil and rub it in to condition it. Wipe off the excess. Et voila. I don't think I would use steel wool. |
