Paul McCartney played in Detroit last night.
I'm glad I finally got to see a Beatle.
Over 3 hours with only a couple short pauses between encores.
He still has the pipes. I only caught him cheating once on the the screaming part of "I've Got A Feeling".
.
Brought out a uke, talked about George for a bit, then played "Something".
.
HUGE flames and fire works display during "Live & Let Die".
.
Being it was held in a baseball stadium the sound was just on the good side of awful. Sounded like there was a built in 1/2 second delay. And they could have been about 10 or 15db less on the volume. (those damn kids and their loud music!!!)
Sounded best when it was just Paul and an acoustic.
.
Almost 70 years old and playing & singing every song in a high energy 3 hour stadium concert.
Make me want to become a vegetarian.

Wow. And I saw him with Wings 35 years ago. He did put on a good show. Sounds like he still does.

His Shows/Tours are becoming a bit "formulaic", but he DOES put on a GoodShow. Catch him once, and you've pretty much "SeenIt" . . .

I've seen Sir Paul twice, and I would go again in a second. You get early Beatles, later Beatles, Wings, individual Paul, and a few new songs. He and the band give it 100%. Over 3 hours each time. There is a great audience vibe when he plays as well. Good stuff! The Uke for George and the acoustic set are just great. the band rocks. Couldn't ask for much more.

I saw the first Wings tour. It was general admission and I was able to push my way up to about 15 feet away from the stage and watch.

I would have stayed there the whole concert but Lia was about 8 months pregnant and insisted that we head back towards the end of the floor section so she could sit down......

and she was afraid the baby would be born deaf.

Good concert but back then, doing Beatle tunes was still on the no no list.

The set list was probably 75% what he HAD to play... Hey Jude, Yesterday, Live & Let Die, etc.
.
Then there were those that were unexpected.
"I've Just Seen a Face" (which was introduced as something they hadn't played in a long time)
"Let Me Roll It"
Marvin Gaye's "Hitch Hike" introduced as a Detroit exclusive.
"Paperback Writer"
And for the final song of the night... "Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight" (You might have expected some more in the line of "Hey Jude")

I've been a Paul fan ever since I saw The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show back in 1964. I've not delved too far into what I'm about to mention but I've noticed it on a couple of songs I've seen Paul perform in concert videos over the last few years. It seems that Paul has dropped some of his classic songs down a full step. I noticed this when trying to play along on the piano with a couple of songs on a recently purchased video of Paul in concert. Sure enough it was in a lower key than what was on the original record. What I'm getting at here is the fact that you otherwise wouldn't notice it unless you were looking very closely at his hands or else you were trying to play along to something you had learned off of an album all those years ago. He's obviously transposed these songs and the parts he plays are an exact match to the original, albeit in a different key. That is just flat out brilliant in my book for a guy who doesn't read music. Sir Paul is definitely one of the greatest composers and musicians to ever come down the pike.

My favorite PM show was 20 years ago in South Carolina. He started with Drive my car and went right into All My Lovin. Two girls and their dad were right behind me...one girls says to the other...this is great - but why is this man singing beatles songs....and the dad cringed....then the other daughter says...c'mon...you know why- he used to be with a band called wings....and the dad cringed....now there is a thread starter..."and the dad cringed" someone go for it...I've got a hundred of those stories.

I saw him at Great American Ballpark Thursday night. Absolutely phenomenal. Sound wasn't great, but that was expected considering the venue. But otherwise the best concert I have ever attended
