So how many others were moved by Steve Martin on the Capital 4th Celebration?

I have been a fan of Steve Martin since I can remember and it's pretty common knowledge I guess now that all he ever wanted to do was play the Banjo and be known as a Banjo player. Comedy was a way to get gigs on a consistent basis, playing the banjo. I used to think that was just a schtick, but as years went by, I'm thinking he really really likes the Banjo.

I must admit, I got a little sentimental seeing this accomplished star have a childhood dream unfold in front me on the TV along with millions of other people.

Whatever the back story, to write a song about Paul Revere's horse and perform it on the Capital lawn for a few millions folks is pretty cool.

Loved his act on the 4th. We tried to see him at a concert two years ago but the tix sold out within a few minutes. His act is supposed to be terrific, particularly with his comedic touch between numbers.

He and his band played in Boise last weekend, but we were out of town. I haven't read any reviews, but I'm sure he was great. About one-third comedy and two-thirds music, according to the billing.

Love watching Steve Martin play the banjo! One of my favorite videos of all time is Steve Martin playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown on Letterman with Earl Scruggs and a few other famous faces.

He is a serious player.
The band, The Lost Canyon Rangers are from Brevard NC and are great on their own as well.
Together, they are the real deal.

Actually, they're called the "Steep" Canyon Rangers, Grammy award winners for bluegrass, too. Maybe the canyon was so steep they only thought they were lost.

What always ticked me off was that before he became famous I had said that if everyone had a banjo there would be world peace because they're so much fun to play, everybody would be too happy to make war. Then I heard him say pretty much the same thing in his comedy routine. ("Hey, I said that first!")

I didn't watch "A Capital Fourth" because I don't do TV, but I did hear it on the radio. I wonder if the British killed the horse, or if he found a new home in England.

Well, he certainly played with a stage full of luminaries on that one, that's a great clip!
