Thanks Paul

Paul, when I got started using alternate tunings, I actually went to Guitar Mag, and Acoustic Mag. I would find songs there with alternate tunings, drops D, double drop D, and I really like DADGAD. With this tuning there are so many possibilities. You can use the drop D sound on the top 3 strings and with just one finger on different frets with the b,g, and e, strings you can create some really sweet sounds. Have fun, once you get started it's hard to stop, if you are writing music.

Don't forget to look into using a Cut Capo. There are several options and tutaledge (sp) that go with.

Or you could go my way, find a song you want to play that requires alternative tunings. E.g. Blackwater (Doobies) in double drop D, Rocky Mountain High (and lots of other songs) in drop D, Never going back again (Lindsay Buckingham plays in drop D with Capo IV, but there are simpler versions done in CGDGBE on Capo VI)

First Alternate Tuning song I learned was Little Martha by the Allman Brothers. Open D (D A D F# A D)capoed on 2nd fret.

Great song that is pretty easy to get your feet wet on alternate tunings, and people are always amazed when you play it.

Good luck!

Youtube is a great resource of lessons and also seeing the original artist play it. The Rolling Stones' song Wild Horses is a fun one and quite simple.
