How do you all set your pre amps when you gig, to get "that sound"?

Does an Ovation lend itself to a more "bassy" sound? so I should put my bass all the way up?
I went to the studio to plug mine in for first time on Friday, and I just had bass up near the top, hardly any mid, and treble up about halfway, and while it was good, (I only had an hour so just enjoyed listening to it, then end), it wasn't "that sound" that I usually hear from an O..
Know what I mean?

I use different settings for different songs/styles. Generally speaking though, I like the mid-range turned down quite low (halfway or less), the bass ALMOST all the way up, and the treble all the way up.

The simple answer is that there is no "one" setting, else they wouldn't have sliders.

Use your ears. Start totally flat including the amp eq. Adjust the Guitar. Now for personal preference, If I'm doing anything extreme on the guitar, I move to the amp for that setting. Such as if it seems I need to have LOTS of bass on the guitar, I back off the bass on the guitar and add some bass to the amp and try again.

Now you did mention "studio"... In a studio, I would set the guitar flat and let the engineer set up the sound and monitoring. If you don't like it, mention what you feel you do and don't like. If they don't get it right, go elsewhere.

And whilst I'm at it... If you are in a studio, were you in an amp or just monitors? I usually just use the line from the guitar and two microphones (at least as a starting point) so the artist just hears the monitors and I adjust to taste. Guitar eq usually flat.

Guess we don't have the whole picture yet.

Hi Alison, I had it pretty much the same as you say there.....
Mr O, I was just going through a Yamaha mixr amp and two monitors....as I say, didn't have too much time, next time I'll do as you say and try flat and go from there.
Cheers!

My 40th anniv Balladeer doesn't have any onboard electronics - just the way I like it. Played it with the band for the 5th time the other day mic'd. I'm absolutely blown away by the tone/timbre of this instrument. The Martin D28 custom is going to become an orphan. Ovation sure got it right on these reissues.
