My son-in-law (Marine Cobra Helo Pilot) had been on a 9-month deployment and was to return to the states the next morning. He fell from a second story, and suffered major spinal cord damage to his lower back, requiring fusion of 4 vertebrae. Doctors said he would be discharged right away and returned to a spinal cord specialty facility in the states, and discharged from the Corps. And also stated IF he ever walked again it would be with some kind of device. That was just two weeks ago. Last week he returned to NC, and yesterday was able to go home for Christmas. He can walk slowly with a cane right now, his commanding officer says they'll give him a year to try and recover before looking at separation from the Marine Corps. He's not out of the woods though... He has no control of his organs from the waist down at this time. Truly a blesing for him to be home, but at the same time, difficult times for the family.

Considering the original expectation, that is fantastic news. Best wishes for a complete recovery for him.

Like I said before, miracles happen. You keep the faith and we'll do the same here. I'm glad he's home for Christmas.

Vince. Please thank your SIL & Daughter for their devotion to God & country! Difficult time ahead for sure, but it beats the alternative. Best wishes to you & yours and may your SIL continue to show great improvement.

Vince,
Our prayers for a recovery. Glad that you son-in-law has a good Commanding Officer to give them time to help him. My son-in-law just brought his Marine battalion back.

The improvements are at least encouraging, Vince... and a move in the right direction.

Continued prayers and best wishes to your family.

Thoughts with you mate, all the best to your family and his. I will dedicate my song at tonight's open mic to your son in law. What's his name? (I understand if you don't want to put that here fair enough)

Yes, thanks to him and your entire family for the sacrifices you all have given to this country. And believe me when I say, miracles DO still happen. God Bless.

This is a tough one to hear about for sure. Prayers will be with his family. I personally have gotten off a deathbed twice - so miracles DO still happen. Like someone else said, it sure beats the alternative. Keep us updated.

Tell a Devil Dog he won't be able to do something then stand by and watch him succeed. All the best in his recovery. I pray he's back behind the stick of his Cobra soon.

Me too. I am flying down on Friday to see him for the first time since he came back from deployment, and return with my wife. (Who has been gone a month) I already told him I'll give him a year before I'll require him to do a three-mile run with me.

Thank your son in law for his service and his sacrifice and tell him he has the support of a grateful nation.

Sounds like he is strong.
