Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | My 2077LX. I have too many darned guitars so I play them in rotation. Lately I have been playing the LX every morning, and after owning this guitar for several years, it still amazes me to the point that sometimes I get the shakes.
Back when I worked at Ovation, I owned a beautiful Gibson Heritage that I compared all guitars to. Sometimes at lunch I would go upstairs and the gas station guy would let me play with the collection in the soundroom. There were a lot of incredible guitars there - Martins and Guilds and even a Gurion. I always used to tell the owner that none of them could match my Gibson.
Fast forward to today. The Gibson is long gone. I have owned several Martins, Guilds, Gretches, Gibsons, Morgan Monroes, and of course a collection of Ovations and Adamas'.
But this LX has them all beat. I have never heard a guitar with such beautiful tone. When I play it I can feel the back vibrating against my stomach, even if I play a single note softly. The sustain goes on longer than on any other guitar I have ever played too.
This guitar is more alive than most people I know. It has more soul, more personality. It is absolute magic. I have played quite a few 2077LX's, and like any wood topped guitar, each one is a bit different. This black one I got from BT717 is the best sounding of them all. (Thanks Bob!)
I have come here several times before, raving about this guitar, but it occurred to me this morning that it is the most treasured posession I have or probably ever will own. I thought that gas station guy ought to know that I finally found a guitar that beats my old Gibson by far, and it just happens to be an Ovation. |

Location: GATLINBURG TENNESSEE :) | I still prefer my 1537 over everything I have ever owned or played. Nothing touches it for sound. Perfect intonation, eternal sustain, always a clear note except when I screw up with my old fingers. I've played lots of guitars selling in excess of $15-20,000 and this one continues to out perform. BUT if you would like to challenge that, I'd be happy to let you send it to me to try out (: |

I also have an Elite-LX that, IMHO, sounds better than it should. Even with all the modern cookie cutter like production methods sometimes something special can happen.
.
The thing I like about letting guitars "rest" for a while is the enjoyment I get when I play them again. Kinda like seeing an old friend. |

Location: SoCal | This thread started me thinking about the very early 1127-4 acoustic Glen Campbell Artist that I had listed for sale. It is my nomination for the finest that I have played.
No longer for sale.
This is not for everbody as it is an acoustic so I do not dispute any one else's nomination.
Years ago, some of the OFC'ers had a chance at Moody's to play it...not taking anything away from other A's and O's (or guitars touted on other forums) but it has the 'feel', sound, balance, inspiration, etc., that you want to just keep playing it. Each note, even without fresh strings, just rings. Tap the top and you hear the sensitivity. The top feels thinner than other O's when you tap it. Even with the artist shallow bowl, it projects like a deep bowl. We have not been able to identify the bracing. Hard to describe but you can feel and hear it.
For me, this is my finest wood top (of any make) as my pre-production slothead is my finest Adamas. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | This is easy for me. For Acoustic the finest I have played and heard for me is the OFC II. It just does what I expect, or makes what I expect sound better than I expect, and the build quality it flawless.
For Electric it would be my MCS Genesis. It was made for me, to my playing and feel.
Favorites to play actually varies a little because while I think the above are the finest guitars I have played, and I happen to own them, honorable mention goes to my old Ovation Medallion. It just has the "it" factor for me.
As far as electrics go, the MCS Bich is another one of those guitars that make me sound like a much better player than I actually am. And along with it goes what we have been referring to as the Messina Deacon that MWoody now has (and is trying to sell). That Deacon is just an amazing piece of workmanship and sound. For an analogy the Messina Deacon is to the production Deacon as the Slothead Adamas is to the production Adamas' that followed. They are all great, but like the Slotheads stand out in front of the pack of Adamas, that one Messina Deacon stands out in front of all the Breadwinners and Deacons made. Way out in front. It's certainly on par with my MCS guitars, almost too close to call, but I did. |

First to come to mind is the 1685 12-string Adamas that I just got from Woody...
The Sweet T sounds Great, and both of my 6778LX's sound Fine (but different)...
I also have a 1681 Adamas that is nice...
and a beat-up 1612 with cracks and bolts in the top that sounds surprisingly good...
OH! Then I remembered that I played this at the Gathering at Damon's house...
Don't know which number Slothead this is... But it is NICE. :cool: |

Back on topic, my 2077 never really touched me. Sound was thin and poor, unbalanced... Too sad, because it was a beautiful guitar, but it was the first and only guitar I didn't feel sorry to sell.
If I read your lines - probably I just got one bad example.

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Oh, a white one! Sure is pretty. But it must've been a "bad" one if the sound wasn't balanced. My LX is the only one of my guitars that sounds exactly the same when you play an open A and a barred A. I mean, if you weren't looking, you couldn't tell. And it rings like crystal bells whether you are playing bass strings or trebles. |

Location: Seacoast NH | Gonna sound a little strange, but the finest guitar I have ever played was also my first. Its a cheapo little mid 60's Alvarez student guitar that at one time belonged to Jonathan Edwards. These days it is all beat up, cracked, and ridiculously abused (from having it since I was 5 years old), but I'll be damned if the thing still doesn't hold a tune great and vibrate like nothing else I've ever played. I have no idea what was so special about those old Alvarez, but that thing has some kind of Mojo on it... |
