Location: Texas | Anyone know where I can get an old old Ovation prototype? I want to spend between $51 and $55.
I would be willing to spend extra if the headstock has layers of "JB Weld" on it.

Location: Ct./ USA | I do not think it is possible, they are put away to be used by the engineering dept, but if you want some sawdust , i'll send you a vile certified from the neck sanding finish area for $50. SORRY WE CAN NOT SEND OUT OR SELL SCRAP. bUT i HAVE ADAMAS SERIAL #72 SIGNED BY c.h.k.for $2000

It is a cool blue, one of the first ones made. Orignal pickup, bowl and it's 3rd battery. I have played it long time, it plays clear and crisp and yet is a bit raspy. I really do not want to part with it. I have had a friend of mine Tony Purrone a monster jazz gutiarist preform on it and HE LIKES IT! I really am going to up grade it, but wonder if it's value would be affected. |

Location: SoCal | There are people here who would say, "Keep it original, don't upgrade" (Hi Miles), but an Adamas like that is going to hold it's value regardless just because it is an old Adamas. Watch this auction to gauge worth

Now, having said all of the above, if it's a 2 knobber, than I'm not certain that I would mess with it. That's kinda classy, and any improvements in sound can be made through an external eq box. I run my 1537 Elite (a 2 knobber) through a Fishman Pro EQ II and am very happy with the results. I don't want to change the guitar because it's unique and cool, not because I just want to preserve the value. |

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | Regardless of my opinions on keeping things original, I'm not sure the newer pre-amps are an upgrade. After some discussion on this at NAMM I did a little A/B myself. Nothing scientific, and I was camparing apples and oranges because of the guitars, but the two knob seemed to have a little different tone than the newer pre-amps. As comparing from guitar to guitar wasn't the smartest approach, I compared what it sounded like acoustically with how close I could achieve that same sound plugged in. My thoughts were that plugged in should sound "mic'd" without the extra noise of the pick and movement and such. The older pre-amp seemed to do this best, but I wish I could have tested the SAME guitar with different pickups. One strange thing to come out was that the Mando sounded better plugged in. I didn't expect that. |

My suggest is don't mess with your guitar and don't sell it. Get a Fishman Pro EQ II and plug thru that. If you ever decide to give the guitar away, call me first. |

Cal. | My vote is on "leave it alone", I cannot tell if the newer ones with the Optima sound all that better than the two knobbers (I have both kinds in various 6 and 12 string Adamas I's). The only upgrade I have done is on an Adamas II, it has an OP24 which is not my favorite. I asked John to put an Optima on it (in fact, it should be coming back tomorrow via UPS : ) |

Location: Ct./ USA | I am keeping #72 and looking into a Fishman EQ. Thanks for the advice. It aint much for me to carry it to the repair dept. and let them loose installing new stuff, #72 is a two knober. I am going to keep it, I do not think it is fair to sell it , its like inside trading.But if I have to sell it, all the proceeds will go to feed the poor, ME. |

Location: Ct./ USA | Holy crap! I just viewed the e-bay auction for the Adamas posted by moody. That is exactly like mine! The discription is accurate. I will not part with mine, I still have some musical exploring to do with banjo tuning pegs i.e. (Adrian Legg is one of the best) |
