Ever since I got my S771 Balladeer Special I've been in love. Now I've made up my mind I'm going for an Elite. Gotta have those epaulets.

Only problem is something else has to go.

I've selected my Mint almost unplayed 25th Anniversary Strat. I know, I know this is an Ovation Club (and a great one) but I notice some you like to collect other types also soooo. :D

The Strat is basically new, played so little it still has the original strings. I bought it in 79 and stuck it in my closet for tomorrow. It has all the original paper work, certificate and (an also like new) Plush HSC.

Would love to get a like condition 2002 Collectors or a Custom Elite Black Cherry Burst would be nice too.

Yea, I know picky, picky. ;)

Thanks for a great forum for a great instument.

It pays to be picky. Get what you really want and don't settle.

Can you tell me if the strat is white or silver, and do you have the serial number? I have a mint 2002 collectors that i might be interested in trading.

Thanks for the interest Dannyboy.

It's silver and the s/n is 257516. The 25 prefix was assigned to the 25th Anniversary edition.
They made 10k of them, not very limited. However I don't think there are too many in virtually unplayed new condition like this one.

I decided to get it appraised by Gruhn so I'd have a number to gage against trades. I should have some data soon.

Meanwhile I'm seeing more and more 2002's showing up at lower prices and I'm beginning to wonder if it's maybe not the guitar I had hoped it was. Unfortunately I have not had the oportunity to see one in person and play it.

Just read some reviews.

How would you rate the action and tone of yours?

the 2002 collectors is a great sounding guitar and they look beautiful. It has a neck that is 20% thinner, like an electric, so it is very easy to play. There were less than 800 made. I believe it takes about a year for these Ovation collectors to start circulating. In my opinion they do not lack quality at all.

An appraisal does not always give you a selling price. Better to look at e bay and average 5-10 sales or look in vintage guitar and look for ads or G base.

Hi,

Hope you don't mind me asking how much a "used" good condition 2002 is going for these days? I've seen them advertised over 2000.00, but have watched people stop bidding after 950.00 on the 2003 model alone!!

I don't know how much a "used" good condition 2002 Collectors is goung for. But "new" from the dealer with warranty (with HSC in some cases) is ranging from $1250-$1400 sometimes with free delivery. Based on website listings and some follow up calls.

If you go to eBay right now there are 3 listed all "Mint" (I haven't yet seen one listed as "good" :D )

They are listed as $799, $1050 & $1500. He's real proud of that last one I guess. But granted it does say in the description that it has "a deep bowl body" so maybe it was a special ordered custom 2002.

eBay can be a strange and wonderous place

I think Al had one listed for $1100 a little while back. I'd say that's about right for used with out a warranty. If you know who you're dealing with that is. If you don't then 11 dollars may be too much. ;)

Thanks Mike,

I'll be careful with my 11.00 and keep on looking for now. I wanted to get the 2002 AC, and then purchase a Celebrity Deluxe(I'm traveling and playing alot right now). I'm not sure I like the Adamas very much, though I'm told they are great guitars. I guess I just like the idea of the wood front.

I did catch the three ovations on ebay, one of them a 1999 collector's, but checked with a dealer who was willing to sell me the 2002 for 1000.00. He didn't mention the warranty, and said I had to pay for the case. Not a bad deal, I'm thinking. I will ask about the warranty, though.

Question: If there were only 800 of them made, then should I be checking for the "code" before purchasing one. Should it make a difference at this point?
Also, I just bought a Fender Strat to carry with me on the road, and I just love it. The sound is so much cleaner than anything I've ever heard, and it seems the audience loves watching a woman playing Strats. Is it me, or does does the Ovation seem closest to sounding like the Strat? Please forgive my ignorance on the subject, since I'm just learning more and more about both guitars.

I have 2 2002 Ovation collectors including cases for sale, they are both mint but they do not come with an Ovation warranty. I will take $1050.00 each plus $25.00 shipping if anyone is interested. You can email me at californian442002@yahoo.com

Dannyboy,

That sounds like a good deal.

I found a nos unit, s/n 201, at Elderly Instruments with full warrantee at $1253 to my door. I thought that was pretty good deal so I went for it. I thought the warrantee was worth the extra as I most likely will keep this for twenty years as I have my strat.

Just got the guitar last night and it's all I heard it was. I love it.

Now all I have to do is decide what to do with my Anniversary Strat (I told my wife I was selling it to pay for this one :) )

Thanks for all the great input. This board is where it's at

I'll be posting some pictures showing my Kaman progression from 1973 Alum neck Applause through 2002 Collecters.

What's next? An Adamas?

Mike
