Had a friend look at it a little closer, and he commented on the dots that are visible on the neck of the guitar when played right handed. Similar dots are not visible when played left-handed. Therefore the guitar is not being sold as a lefty... Yeah, yeah, so I'm not a guitar lingo wordsmith... |

Location: SoCal | Nice guitar, but it was built in the 1970's per the label, model, bowl material, and serial number. Ovation didn't even start building the Artist until 1970.
There's also a a/e Custom Balladeer from the 70's or 80's that a seller is claiming is from 1967. Good try. |

| OK, ok... I guess I asked for it... Most of the info I got for this ad was retrieved from www.ovationguitars.com, and I can see that I might have "interpolated" the date incorrectly. 1974 is fine with me. I am advertizing it as a lefty because two reputable guitar stores, and multiple guitarists (amateur and professional) who I had test it out suggested that it was a lefty. And yes, the strap holder is on the "wrong" side. If there is another way to determine left or right handed please let me know. The bridge is as straight as straight can be, the illusion that the bridge is crooked, is just that, a photographic illusion. I appreciate the vast knowledge on this website and am thankful for the heads-up on the misrepresentations on my ad. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | This is a right handed guitar. You can tell by the angle of the saddle on the bridge. The saddle is always installed at an angle due to intonation differences that vary as the string gauge changes. The thicker bass strings always have a longer scale then the thinner treble strings. You can clearly see on this one that it is cut for a righty. As far as the location of the strap button, when Ovation introduced their first acoustic electrics they put the volume control knob right where the strap button would normally go - on the bowl right next to the bass side of the neck. They moved the strap button to either the treble side of the neck or onto the neck heel. But no doubt about it - this one is a right handed guitar. The dealers and players that called this a lefty had no idea what they were talking about and probably only looked at the strap button to make their rash conclusion. Dave
PS - Look at this guitar. It is setup exactly like the one in question and this one is definately a right handed guitar - I know because it is mine.

Location: SoCal | New pics have been posted on this guitar on ebay. This guitar is acurately described and the pics appear to be representative of the guitar. For somebody will to put in a little work on the guitar, this could be a good instrument at a good price. |

The "rolling out" while playing standing is not an issue with the mid-depth and shallow backs with cut-outs (IMHO)

Location: stow,ohio,usa | I LOVE the single volume knob. EQ's confuse me. I grew up with a Fender amp. Bass,Treble,Volume,Vibrato,Reverb. Now I have a Behringer. Great amp, but it has 99 effects. I don't even have a band, and I have 99 effects!!! Sometimes I long for the old days. |

I see you live in Stow, Ohio - Ever heard of Matco Tools!! I was a Matco tools distributor for four and a half years - Had to go to Stow for my training and contract signing!! Stow's a nice little town from what I saw of it. Also my wife is from Belvue, Ohio (If you know where Belvue is you know it's is a nice little town with a lot of farms!!)

I've got an A/E Artist, Ser.# M619 c.'72 that I'm going to "throw to the wolves" on eBay...It's in the member gallery if anyone's curious...too bad I can't post some kinda .jpeg / .pdf file that would give y'all the sound and the feel...course then we'd probably never get anything done around here! :cool:
p.s. Doesn't Ronco make a cool fishin' rod holder so's you can take yer G'tar wit ya!!! |
