Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I like the Tornado but as mentioned in another thread, the Thunderhead is a better instrument. I have played some Tornados that just rock. Those pickups are very hot, but finding one this old with a good neck and such is hard.
They do not fetch as much as they should. Only the blonde Thunderheads seem to attract a decent price in the 600+ range depending on condition. The Tornados seem to be much less.
The real sleeper in all of this is the Eclipse. It is basically a Thunderhead that for whatever reason the top would not look nice when finished, so they sprayed them with bowl paint, and put the Tornado pickups in them. I have never seen one of these guitars in bad shape. They are solid, the finish is nearly bulletproof. I think in a few more years, these are going to go up in value. It's got a "goth" appeal because of the black bowl paint, and if there was any remote attempt to take of it, most of the ones I have seen still look and play like almost new. |
