Any Custom Legend is a great guitar, just always liked the dark sunburst (and ebony/black) for showing off the inlaid work.

Hmmm, whoever is interested needs to ask the seller some specific questions about damage - can see some just below the bridge and on the case. Note that this is not included in the seller's description. Also, doubt if this will meet the reserve, whatever that is. If it fails, still option of contacting seller directly after the sale and making a deal.

Many of the older (early 80's) USA-made Ovations I've seen and played seem to have a crack running vertically from the bridge. Is it a common problem? What would the recommended repair be? Should it be repaired? Should it be sent back to the factory? Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks ...

The damage below the bridge and scuffing of the case is only what has been shown in pictures, not described - allows the seller an out if the buyer doesn't notice the damage..."gee, it was in the picture."

As none of this was in the description, what other damage? Would suggest very specific questions to the seller. I would also ask how this crack was repaired and by whom.

". . . scuffing of the case . . . "

Wow!, you guys're a tough crowd!
We're talkin' about a 20 friggin' year old guitar, here!!

Remind me never to post any of my guitars here for sale, as my cases definitely have that "lived-in look". :D

Actually, the case in question might not be "scuffed". It looks like it might've had a lable/bumpersticker on it once that's since been removed.

Not to worry here...my point was that damage, small or large, should be in the description, not relying on a photo. Ever see what the photos look like if using a small notebook? Heck the 12 string CL coming in tomorrow were so bad, the finish looked like nutmeg...knew from the model and year it was dark sunburst but was suspicious that the photos could be dark to hide damage.

In this case, just a caution. It means that the buyer should be cautious.

More the fact that unless the description includes specific condition of the guitar and case, the potential buyer should ask the questions to the seller. If not, then the buyer shouldn't gripe about the condition later.

I ask for repairs, scratches, chips, checking, etc. - where, through the finish, through the wood, etc. When I ask, I have found the seller to be very truthful. I have, in one case, asked for a closeup of the damage. And, I then bought the guitar.

As far as cases, it is a plus to have the OHSC if I may resell it in the future. In my purchase from Miles, not original but an excellent case. No problem. If there is a broken handle, burn marks, whatever - well, that is a consideration. Still want to know. Heck, with the weather in San Diego, I have all of my guitars on wall hangers anyway.

If I had the money, I would be dealing on that guitar. His price might be a little high, but the guitar might be worth it. How many of these have we seen on the market, slothead, carved head and bridge, single knob control? I suspect the acoustic sound on this is top notch looking at the top and back.

You must be sure to ask plenty of questions when buying on ebay. Don't rely on photos or description only. I recently purchased an Ovation brown hard case advertised as in excellent condition with pictures to match. What I received was a case covered in mold and mildew with a broken hinge. Buyer beware...

Not only does it look like there is a crack, but I wonder if the top could also be a bit warped?

Note new pictures...written seller about what appears to be a crack below bridge not shown in latest listing.

Just sold for $686...don't believe bidders were aware of the prior listing and shown damage. None of the current bidders were bidders on the prior listing.

Pictures of this 2nd listing showed no damage at all. Seller was very general in answers to my specific questions - concerning the damage below the bridge, he stated ""the crack does not go through. everything else appears great."

Went to $601 to reserve a few dollars in case I would have sent it back to Ovation for repair. Oh well, there will be others...

One strange thing about the Ovation logo on the headstock of this guitar. The custom legend usually got the abalone Ovation logo with black outline.I went thru some of my catalogs and they show the logo in abalone on the slothead 12 string CL...This one has the regular legend gold logo..Anyone else seen this before?

You are right...I didn't get the serial no to determine age but the 1619 from 1978 that I had was pearl. Of the 15 or so that I have seen from '78 to '82 (or later) all had pearl.

Tony, the Custom Legend I got from you does not have the inlaid pearl Ovation logo. It has the same gold decal that the Custom Legend 12 string on ebay has. That was one of the first things I noticed about it when I took it out of the case. I had never seen a Custom Legend without the inlaid logo, but after seeing the one on ebay I guess there are quite a few out there with the decal logo like mine.
