| Picked this up ages ago when I quite playing. Traded my Fender Jazzmaster and Deluxe reverb amp for it. Been with me ever since. Hasn't been played in ages and probably has no more than 40 hours of playing over it's lifetime. Looks perfect though it has one small ding on the neck that I just found.... not sure when that happened. :(
I'm not really looking to sell it however I feel it would be best in the hands of somebody that can truly appreciate it. If you're that person drop me a line.... gmadjedi@madjedi.com |

| Have had several inquiries so I took pictures of the guitar. Unfortunately I found there was also a crack on the face (sorry if I'm not using the correct term). Anyway here's a link to download pictures of the guitar. I've included shots of the damage as well.

| Yes... that is where the crack is. No idea how it got there since it's spent a huge majoirty of it's life in the case.
As far as price goes... I'm really looking for offers since I have no idea how much it's worth (moneywise) :) |

Location: SoCal | The crack is the result of the rosette shrinking. That's the main reason that Ovation went to the plastic overlaid rosette back in 1970.
Your guitar is probably worth somewhere from a low of $400 to a high of about $1200, depending on who's in the market to buy it.
It's a great guitar. I have one and wouldn't part with it. What's the serial number on it? It can be found on the label inside and possibly on the neck block, way up inside. |

| The label inside the guitar has "Deluxe Balladeer" typed in as the model and "B 321" as the serial. Couldn't find anything else.
The label also list New Hartford, so I guess it was made after their move. |

how did you come to this conclusion?
I 've seen them selling in ebay for $300, $400, sometimes $500, $550, but I do not recall an early Ovation with shiny bowl sold in ebay (always) for $800, or $900 or more...

Seriously, I've seen them go in private auctions up over a grand and higher. ebay is not the only place where people buy and sell.
Personally, I'd hold onto the guitar unless cash is an issue. I suspect that there's going to come a time in the not too distant future where older Ovations, especially from the 60's are going to start moving up in value.
But also consider that it's a great sounding guitar. It's so good that Ovation is going back to the "X" bracing pattern on their LX models, this time scalloping the braces for even more sound. |

| The most interesting and exciting new (old) thing is the introduction of the LX bracing pattern in the new Elite LX and Legend LX models.
At the Ovation website we can see a photo of the new LX pattern on the Legend (round soundhole) but not of the Elite LX (X brace-scalloped).
My question is: Will both guitars (Elite and Legend) have the very same LX bracing pattern?
I would like to see a pic of this pattern on the Elite LX.
As far as I am aware there was never EVER! an Elite or Adamas steel string with an X-brace. Am I wrong?
This will be the first time. |

Location: SoCal | The Legend and the Elite LX models both have the scalloped X bracing patter. I would guess that they are pretty close to identical.
The reason that you never saw this pattern on an Elite or Adamas is that the "A" bracing pattern was developed for the Adamas and then applied to the Elite. This was from the mid 70's to the early 80's. In the early 70's, Ovation had gone away from the X pattern except for the Balladeer and Custom Balladeer (and possibly something else that slips my mind). The hot ticket was the VT patterns. Then in the early 1980's, the A bracing pattern began to be applied to most of the Ovation line.
My guess is that Ovation looked back at the early days to see what their sound was like back then, decided that the guitars with the X bracing were pretty good (which they are) and brought that bracing pattern into the modern world, resulting in an even better sound acoustic guitar.
I'm curious as to the sound differences between the LX Elite and Legend. When I figure that out, I just may order me a guitar thru Al, with a few custom features. I am excited! |
