I have been getting close to 10 emails a day from collectors and guitar shops since I put the Deacon up. I think I might be better off sitting on it for a few more years

If you can get $3500 for it internationally, then you ought to go for it. This bidding is similar to two Preacher 12's that both went recently in the $1100 range. The third one that sold after that went for just under $600. About a year ago I bought my Preacher 12 for $600 and was worried that I had spent too much for it. Was I wrong or did I buy just before the market started up? But the international market for Ovations has always been stronger than the domestic market. If I may ask, what was your reserve and how did you decide on it?

Some offers from "artists" that have well over 2K, that thought I would sell the guitar to them dirt cheap because I would be starstruck by their names. The most insulting offer was $250. THere are some better pictures of it on my homepage Manland I have already been slammed for copying the description from another website so I will tell you know the description is by Harald Milz

If I remember correctly, a nice one went for about $650. All depends on what buyers are looking at the time and what value the seller places on it. Personally, I thought $700-$750 would be the high bid but I knew the value is more. Guess that is the problem with an auction.

I got the last one on eBay, an absolutely beautiful mint pure mahoghany marvel for $730 (I should post the pictures, they're breathtaking.). Not to say there aren't idiots out there (there's a sucker born every minute), but before you sell to someone overseas, make sure you get the cash in hand first. I'm betting someone is yanking someone's chain, and hard. The amazing thing is just how much these "incredibly rare" ovations have been showing up on eBay with quite increasing regularity recently, especially since all the guitar shops and pawn shops are getting net-savvy. As we have talked about often, take a Preacher for example, and find a comparable USA Made guitar of this quality with an ebony fretboard for under $1000, but rarely do they sell for over $500. It's the same for the acoustics. I understand an Adamas I in Japan goes for over $2,500, but try getting someone in the states to pay that.

It's also been my experience that sellers who demand more than eBay market value, no matter the reason, end up with their stuff unsold, and strangely wonder why. I've found the majority of eBay sellers willing to deal after three or four futile relistings though, especially when they've been out of touch with reality. Not implying that's the case here specifically, you understand. Les :)

That's probably why the "sudden" popularity! But having watched these guitars go "up and down" for the past 12 years I can say with some accuracy that this is VERY temporary. These guitars aren't as rare as people are thinking. I picked up two of them in the last month. Both mint. One tobaccoburst for $450 and a rare cherry one for $850 so GIVE ME THE EMAILS of those supposed high buyers! I'm ready to sell for $3500 !!! No problemo! Ahahahahaa!

Even moreso because I just discovered an email where "supposedly" this 12 string in question was offered to someone AFTER the end of the auction for half the $1601 !!!! WOW... are rumours just flying or is this a last stich effort to get more than $1000 for a great but quite common 12 string electric! Want something GREATER and more popular for so many GREAT reasons? Go for a Rickenbacker! Right? Ahahahaha Best Regards! MJK Originally posted by xbj: [QB]Interesting.

Don't know if they have to go through an approval process or I just muffed it up, I can't find them in there yet, but hopefully soon they'll appear so we can all see what $730 should get you on eBay. That's not even a steal, really. $200 would be bragging. No, I think $730 is just your good basic midline reality check. Les :)

Other than new, highest I have had to pay is $650 and that was the 6759 CL 12. Keep telling myself patience. One day, there will be two or three listed at same time. Then the sharks will attack. Ah, the conflict of a buyer seeking the best value and a seller who values what he is selling.

We'll find both you guys some more... they might be rare, but not THAT rare, and there's still a ton in shops that have sat there for years unsold. Les :)

Thanks to the guidance of moody.pi and others education on the relative and market value, I believe that although I paid top dollar that I did not get stung anywhere near the amount that I would have been embarassed to admit to after the fact.
