Somewhere here in my office I've got the printed program from the '99 Christie's auction, but of course I cant find it. I was almost certain that "Blackie" was sold then.

Brownie, his 56 Strat, on which he recorded Layla, was sold in 1999. Alomst half a million bucks. He didn't sell Blackie at that time.

Perhaps EC is realizing his own mortality. Since one cannot take guitars along at death, selling them now for a worthy cause at least sends some good ahead.

I saw Eric Clapton live in a small club outside of Chicago in 1968. It was the first American tour for Cream. It ruined me....
