Location: Florida | Forgot to add... since laquer is so easy to repair, while those poly finishes are the mother of invention for colorful vocabulary. |

Well, at least I learned why finish cracks are so hard to repair on an Ovation.
On my ancient SG, there is a crack in the finish at the place where the heel joins the body. I looked very closely with an eyeloup at this. Its an expansion crack in the finish, not the wood. You can see how the one grain would expand while the other didn't at that sections glue joint. The finish repair was pretty simple with clear laquer. It melted the old finish and settled right in with about 3 coats along the crack with a toothpick. A little fine sanding, hand buff and voila all done.
Hate to say it, too bad the EPA wont let em use laquer without jumping thru all sorts of techno-hoops. |
