Someone will probably bid this up to a couple of grand and pay the shipping, sales tax & import duty to get it into the US. I bet the abusive replies to this post from GP owners gets into double figures pretty quickly.

Also I have no abuse to doll out either. In terms of craftsmanship, I think the PRS is a solid guitar. In terms of tone I enjoy the GP infinitely more. But on par with PRS construction wise the GP is not. The GP is a cool guitar. It is however in my opinion not $2,200+ cool unless I'm selling one.

Regardless of country of origin, if the goods come in as the result of a commercial transaction then import duty & sales tax is payable on the value declared for customs and insurance purposes.

I also don't understand this discussion, the gp is a kewl vintage guitar with monster output I think it is (with the uk II) the crown of ovations solidbodies manufacturing. this technology is gone to hamer and they also are building fine guitars which I also like more than the prs. many guitarists think that the prs are the top of guitar manufacturing. but also that they're good guitars I think that their design is boring and the pu's are also just regular ones. So it's better to have a rare vintage ovation than throwing the cash out of the window and buying a guitar which hundreds use ;) regards

In comparison to the quality of construction and time that PRS puts into their guitars...it's not that much of a comparison. The differences are subtle but many; things like the kind of finishing techniques and chemicals used in their finishes...stuff that most guitarists could give two craps about. Regardless, the differences are there...anyway, I just put in an order for a Custom 22 Friday, and I have no problem rocking a PRS and a GP side by side. By the way...do the tuning machines on the GP on eBay right now look like Grovers to anyone else? Which means of course they aren't original (Schaller). Just thought I'd point that out incase anyone cared.

I've been on the phone with the customs office several times to make sure I was always doing the right thing. Unless the laws have changed for '04, American goods returning to American soil are exempt from import taxes. **EDIT** About the current GP auction on eBay - apparently the photos up of the GP are of the guitar that is for sale. There was a bit of a "language barrier" and it led to some confusion.

You can tell the later run by the serial number sticker being on the back of the body instead of the back of the headstock and the plastic plate jack as opposed to a small metal circular one. Just things I've noticed from the 6 GP's I've owned over the years.
