I can't find much info on the '94 collectors. There is one on e-bay for @ $750 (perfect condition). I have a 1767 '86 custom legend (love it, it is completly opened up and just sings), but I am looking for another stage gtr. How much differance will the mid-depth of the '94 sound against the deep bowl of the legend? Any advise on the '94 would be helpful.....Thanks

Maximus,
Just my 2 cents worth to help you decide.
I Used to play Deep Bowl Ovations when I First Started Playing Seriously in the late 70's. At The time Deep Bowl Was the Norm and The Legend and GC models were great. Last year when I decided to buy a 12 string after years of not having one,I decided on the 1858 Elite 12 String. Only One Problem- They only Came standard with a shallow Bowl. I requested a change to a mid bowl for better acoustic projection, and they even put the finish I requested on It.
Bottom Line is.. The Mid Depth Guitars I've Played Sound great Acoustically or Plugged in.
And the frequency Response for you highs, mids and lows are pretty stellar on my model.
I'd say that the Mid Bowl is a good Compromise. If you like deep Bowls but don't care for Shallow Bowls-You should like the mid Bowl just fine.

Hiya Maximus;

Steve is 100% correct IMHO.
ALSO: I own 1994 Collector's ed.-{# 850, Mid bowl}, And a 1983 Stereo Elite,{12 hole,Deep bowl},(see them @ "MEMBER ACCESS","Doc H"). I also had a 1993 Custom Legend,{Super Shallow bowl}- But it was stolen.

To add to what Steve said, Here's a few things I've learned over the years...

About bowls: When I had all 3 guitars, I was shocked to find out that while playing UN-plugged, The loudest one also had the most 'punch'... It was the LEGEND ! And even tho it was only a little louder than my deep bowl,12 hole, Elite... It was not QUITE as loud as my buddy's deep bowl, ROUND hole, CELEBRITY.

This could end up waaaay too long a post, so to briefly summerize - The PRIMARY source of an UN-plugged OVATION's overall sound, comes from the TOP.

If you're UN-Plugged, and playing a mid, o0r deep bowl with 6 other wood bodied flat-tops, You won't be able to hear your own axe... AND, The other guys will complain that you're playing too loud!

The reason I fell in love with my '94 Collector's is the TECHNOLOGY.
*On board chromatic tuner
*Selectable 4 band EQ - (ie: push button lead switch)
*Tunable notch filter - (NO MORE FEEDBACK!!)
*Both 1/4", AND Balanced XLR (Mic jack) outputs

If you're a working musician, in a band, especially w/other acoustic instruments, and/or sadistic electric bass players... Then the 94, (or it's current equivalent), Is the ONLY way to go.

I apologise for the incompleteness of this post that some of you will notice. But it is too long already. Besides, Ill be happy to answer any questions via e-mail, or?

BTW; My "Expertise" with Ovation is based SOLELY on my 20+ years EXPERIENCE w/MY guitars, which are my tools as a working musician who changes strings weekly.

So If ya "Play out", "PLUG IN!"

WHAT A THRILL !

Two 1994 Collectors went on e-bay the past few weeks. $611.00 plus shipping if I remember.

Very nice set up. Great buys for the quality.
The first guitar with the Optima set up.

A business colleague of mine bought one of the ones on eBay (at my urging). I had a chance to examine it on Friday. Very nice guitar. Top is awesome ... best described as nutmeg in color and it had some bearclaw look to it in places. I was surprised at the volume this guitar put out. Interesting was the almost "plum" color of the bowl, which was matched in the top binding and in the inlay. The inlay itself was quite attractive ... maple with ebony (and another type of wood) geometric inlays and 4 abalone diamonds. Fretboard is ebony with a simply 12th fret inlay only. Gold tuners with ebony buttons, with headstock that looks to be a piece of ebony laminated on. The 5 piece neck had what looked to be ebony as the center stripe. And of course the Optima preamp with XLR out. It played and looked amazing. Made we want to go looking for one for myself. It is a really, really nice guitar.

Ignorant eBay sellers routinely called multi-soundhole Ovations 'Adamas' guitars, includings Celebrities. Or maybe they aren't so ignorant..... Keyword spamming is a common eBay practice.
