Lets see, they are both guitars and made of wood, It kinda stops there. Setneck vs Bolt-on, active elec vs passive, scale, shape all different. |

Location: SoCal | What would you change the Preacher's pickups to? In those years, Ovation made the size of their p/u's propriatary, meaning that after market p/u's wouldn't fit. You'd have to route the body to fit bigger p/u's. |

Location: Scotland | The Preacher Deluxe is essentially a Deacon with a conventional body shape. I find that the active electronics on the P.Deluxe (and the BW/Deacon) are better suited to clean/slightly overdriven tones, than heavily saturated sounds. So if you are looking for a Josh Homme tone you're barking up the wrong tree with a P.Deluxe. The standard Preacher would be a better bet, though Ovation's proprietary standard mini-humbukers, while they have a decent tone are not particularly high-output. Changing pickups is a possibility, but as Moody said, you'd need to rout the body and cut the pickguard (or better still have a new pickguard made so it can be returned to stock) The UK11 could be an alternative. They have exceptionally high-output pickups & can be had for $3-500. |
