| I lost my 1991 Ovation collector's edition in a fire some years ago and was looking for a suitable replacement.That was my first real guitar from my first real job just out of school. If anyone has any info on this guitar I would appreciate it very much. Thank You |

Location: Tennessee | You've come to the right place! There's lots of opinions on what might make a suitable replacement, and they'll all be right. The 1991 Collectors was the 25th Anniveresary guitar, and they pop up with some regularity on eBay. What do you want to use it for, i.e. mostly noodling in the living room, playing gigs, fingerpicking, strumming? Also, what is your budget? That'll help some folks point you in a direction.

Location: Minden, Nebraska | The '91 Collectors' was a deep bowl, single sound hole model made to honor the Balladeer. A Legend or Balladeer LX would be a great replacement; not as deep a bowl but a better guitar.

Location: Minden, Nebraska | Legends are above Balladeers in the taxonomy of single sound hole Ovations. They are priced accordingly. The fairly new LX series is an improvement over the older styles in terms of guitar construction and technology.
You can try them out at a local Ovation dealer. There are lots of posts on the Bulletin board about test driving different guitars at Guitar Centers, etc.
However, for the best price and customer service on a new one, try the link for one of the sponsors of this board. Al Pepiak a.k.a. Lost Art/Vintage Instruments is an authorized Ovation dealer who has sold guitars to many satisfied buyers who are members of the OFC.
If you go over to the Bulletin Board side of this site and do a search of the threads, you will indeed find a lot of reports comparing guitars and giving opinions. |
