I have Patriot #880 that I bought new on 11/18/76 it is in excellent condition with the noterized certificate of authenticity, owners manual, original case, and the very rare 1976 Ovation sales catalog that shows models and specs and artists that played them.Catalog not shown.
It has seen very little use, truely a find. Reduced -$1100 OBO.

JohnB,
Why does Tony have a picture of your guitar in his gallery? (or vice-a-versa...)

Almost a year ago, I posted the pictures to show the guitar and associated material that came with it...mine was sans all of the original material...with a trip to the mothership. I thought the pics were generic Ovation but see the simularity...hmmm. They had been sent to me from a friend when I got mine.

JohnB,

I had what I saw were generic photos...I said that I have # 320 which is one of the rarer a/e's (10% of the 1,776). The gallery is designed to show individual guitars but also to show what the model is - these were excellent photos of the materials that came with it. These photos were not used in an attempt to sell a guitar. As I said, these were sent to me months ago.

My guitar had damage to it (well disclosed by the seller) and had a trip to the factory. Result, time travel back to 1976.

Again, these were posted months ago...think of it as advance advertising.

John, this is an absolutely wonderful guitar...AAA spruce, A bracing, gorgeous "voice", etc. The only reason I question is that we have seen these sell from $425 (mine that needed new case and a trip to the factory) and about $950. Only two I know of that are offered higher are #1 and #76.

We both know that they should sell for much higher but you might scare off some of the OFC'ers with the $1,500. Just my observation. If you are willing to negotiate the price, maybe you want to state that.

You forgot to say that #1 is $2000 and #76 is $1750. But I'll keep that in mind. I'm open to offers. By the way do you know what a 1976 sales catalog (included) is worth?
Very hard to find.
I saw a Patriot in Nashville for $1000 that wasn't anywhere near as nice, with no paperwork or catalog.

John, you have a case for having all of the original docs, etc. For the collector, important consideration...as I said, a wonderful instrument and an important addition for anyone who is collecting "Collector's"

Not of the Collector's series but see below:

"Good guitar ideas always come from players. Sometimes they're from players who work for Ovation. Sometimes they're from our friends out there who play Ovation.
To get a real perspective on the Ovation Collectors' Series, we've got to go back to 1976 when our 10th year coincided with the Bicentennial of our country. To celebrate both, we built 1,776 specially-designed "Patriot" models.

Around 1980, we noticed that Patriot guitars were becoming popular with guitar collectors. The idea of collecting guitars was always around, but it was really starting to take off among a wide group of players.

Around the same time, Earl Thomas Conley, a popular country singer and Ovation player, asked us to make him a Custom Legend in Blue Sunburst with the stereo electronics from our Adamas guitar. Wherever he played, Conley always got positive comments on the sound and look of his guitar.

We decided to create a limited edition version of the guitar in 1982. We called it the "Collectors' Series", since our previous limited edition guitar was becoming something of a collectors' item. And because collectors are always looking for something special, we wanted to make our Collectors' Series different, intriguing and very special.

The guitar and the concept proved to be the right move. By April of '82, (the date we chose to close the order book) we had sold 1,908 and began to make plans for the encore."

The last few patriots to sell on ebay were in the $500 range. Nice guitars. I played Michaels and was impressed. Interesting to see what the '76 sales catalog is worth (I've got one). I don't mean to sound unpatriotic, but as nice as these guitars sound I just can't see my self playing a guitar with an emblem painted on the top (eagle, felix the cat, american flag, etc.). OK, maybe a palm tree would be OK. But as I said these do sound nice and hopefully you will find a buyer. Dave
