Location: Phoenix AZ | The bridge has been changed, but other than that looks really nice. Slap a $10 rosette on it and you're in business. Hope somebody here grabs it. These guitars are rare. |

Location: boulder | I love Josh whites. The shiny bowls sustain and ring bright. There are no electronics either, so it's pure tone. projection is not as great on mine as some of the other models but that might just be me.
To find an all original I think would be difficult, if for no other reason then the original inlaid rossettes were not as durable as the later overlay rossettes.
To find one in that is all original, without cracks and with the early style rossette pattern, well I can dream...
I am not sure how many shiny bowls were made ( I guess 5000 minus all the electric storm series, which I am not sure how many of those were produced. i.e. s/n B-900 =4900 which is about when non shiny bowls start appearing. so 4900 minus electric storm series = ???, take ??? and subtract #1 balladeers, #2 deluxe balladeers, #3 classics, #5 12 strings , #6 contemporary folk classic (four made), #7 gcdb six string, and #8 gcbd 12 string, and you have not alot of #4 josh whites.

Location: Phoenix AZ | FD14 has a much nicer neck (thiner) and narrower 1-3/4 vs. 1-7/8. Playability is no question FD14 far superior. Looks, no contest - the old shiny bowls wre the best looking guitars Ovation ever produced. Sound? Wow, really hard to compare. They are different. FD14 sounds lighter and more open and more bass. But JW has better sustain, ring and projection. I love them both but could part with the FD14 easier than the JW. A lot of that is just sentamental reasons. I think I have owned 3-4 of them. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Too far away to check, but yes my recorrection (sorry, I could not resist) is that FD14 is A braced. By the way in a shop here at Ochano-mizu they have FD14 serial number 18 for sale. Not sure if it's new or used. $2400. |
