I only read the first couple of posts on this subject, and did not until jus now read the one's regarding the loss of your neighbor's child. The opening line of my previous post was unintentionally apt, but not for a reason I would wish for. I don't remember who posted it, but he or she was right... the guitar issue can wait. You've got bigger things on your plate at the moment. Take care, and God Bless you and your neighbors.

I will put it on Ebay beginning Tuesday evening. It will have a reserve price of $800, and i'll let the market value be decided by the bidders. It's an awesome machine. In going over it very closely, i did find a little scratch on the lower part of the front of the peghead, under the low-e strings... no doubt put there by a string end, when changing strings. It's very minor and i had a devil of a time getting a photo of it, but i just want to be 110% honest about any blemishes. There is also a place on the face of the guitar, upper bout area on the right when you're facing the guitar. About the size of a pencil lead. I honestly can't figure out if it's a ding, or a flaw in the clear finish. The only way to find it is to get the light reflecting on it just right, and then there is a slight imperfection in the finish... not rough... very smooth, but makes the light distort as it moves over it. The wood beneath is not affected. I could NOT get a photo to show it, but i tried. The strings are deplorable!  AND... i found something extra to go with it. :p :p :p I used to do some leather work, and when i got the guitar, I made a matching leather guitar strap for it. When i say "matching", I mean that I used different colors and textures of leather to create the design used around the soundholes of the guitar. It's a one-of-a-kind strap, fully adjustable, very soft and supple, and it goes with the guitar. :D Also of course, there's the original HSC, the warranty card, instruction manual, etc. If you wanna see pictures... www.dalyvoss.com/ovation best wishes and blessings galore, Susan

The 1758 Elite 12 was issued 1986-1993. My assumption is the "Legend-Elite" name was so confusing that it became the 1758 Elite. Where there any major construction differences between the 1736 and the 1758? Understandably the 1538 had significant "hand work" which was tooled down into the other models. Besides looking wonderful on my wall what are some opinions about this model?

This appears to be a 12 string version of that guitar. My opinion, probably a great guitar that I should own. Unfortunately, I wrecked my truck today. I decided to pull off the road to check the load I was carrying and I turned into a fire hydrant. Stupid !@#$%&*fire hydrant! Although I was going slow, it felt like the Titanic hitting the infamous iceberg. I could feel sheetmetal tearing. $1600 damage. So it looks like I'm out of the running for this great guitar.

There was one on Ebay a while ago for something like $75, which seems like a pretty good deal since they go for a lot more than that new. Now that my girl is 13 she's upgraded to an Elite T and has become an Ovation addict. Your son will likely grow out of his 3/4 size in just a few short years. Have you considered buying something used? And, as my kids like to say, you can always work some overtime. Your guitar looks beautiful. I only wish I could afford it.

Have you considered buying something used? However, I've played all the "minis" out there and i'm not impressed with any of them. The Taylor had the best sound, but the action was INSANELY high. I can't believe they shipped it that way. Anyway... I have been reading about the Zager guitars, and I'm planning to get him one of their travel size guitars. I'm impressed with their solid spruce top and mahogany sides and back. No laminates. if you haven't seen them, check them out at zager.com. He should grow out of that right into one of my Gibson B25's. Small body and small neck. One of them is the one my father bought me when i started out, but i was in 7th grade and the right size for it. Anyone heard a Zager? Susan Susan

When I think about the nice guitar I could be playing instead of putting $1600 into my truck (considering the accident was an act of total stupidity), it makes me sick. I could be strummin away on a beautiful 30th anniversary Legend or something like that.

Joined: November 2005 Posts: 42 Location: New York State | Hi all, My 12 string on ebay is close to the reserve of $800, so i'm hopeful it will sell this evening (Tuesday). What's the best way to prepare it for shipping? I spoke to the UPS store here, and they said they would just wrap the case in corrugated cardboard to protect it. Any other suggestions? thanks a bunch Susan

Joined: December 2003 Posts: 13996 Location: Upper Left USA | Susan, I just shipped an Adamas 12 to MI (out for delivery right now). Loosen, but not slack, the string tension and pad the underside of the peghead for support in the case. Bag any "moveable" items and remove straps with buckles, etc. and secure the case. Ovation OHSC's are a great fit and protector. Obtain a Kaman full size guitar box from your local GC or whoever. Styrofoam, wadded newsprint or bubble wrap a "U" shape on the bottom of the box and slide the case down into it. Use similar material to fill in/pad the narrowed end of the case including the very top. If the box came with a positioner - bonus! Place cardboard or old wood panel, etc. inside between the case and box if you have some. This is overkill but may help. For instruments the "popcorn" is useless. Inflated bags are ok but still may shift. Always pay the extra $10 for shipping insurance. Pray! UPS is OK, Fed Ex works on Saturday and USPS is cheaper and you will be the largest package in the truck. I try to leave a treat and a thank you note in the mailbox when I expect a delivery. Don't worry about your auction. It's the last 5 minutes that matter!

Joined: November 2005 Posts: 42 Location: New York State | Thanks everyone for the advice about selling my 12 string. It is now boxed up and ready to head out tomorrow to it's new home in Texas. After exchanging emails with the auction winner, i'm happily convinced it's going to a good home where it will join at least one other Ovation! Cool. I've already ordered my son's 3/4 size Zager guitar, and am researching digital pianos, so the money is staying in the "music" dept here ;) susan
