Location: Tennessee | Hello, not sure how to start here, never joined a message board like this before. I am looking for Balladeer guitar parts to renovate a vintage Balladeer I have. Typical ones to need, the neck and top. I know it seems useless, and I have been told this on numerous occassions by a few guitarists out there, none of course are ovation fans. But this guitar is the one who developed my love for ovations, it was damaged when I purchased it 20 years ago, and yet she still sang as though brand new. This guitar from what I have found is one of ovations first, serial number 1111, and I want to fix her. It is not about price, or what kind of value it might have when done. It is about me cherishing something which has given me much pleasure for 2 decades. I have my work cut out for me I know, but I have never been afraid of work and a good challenge is good for the soul.
I have 5 ovations and I just love them all.
Hopefully someone can help with not so much discouragement as I have recieved before. This is a labor of love for me rather than anything else.

Location: Phoenix AZ | Your best bet would probably be to buy a complete 1111 balladeer (they are on ebay all the time) and then take what parts you need from it. Good luck with the project. Dave |

I did go in and read some of the posts in another thread about sending her to the Mother Ship *loved that reference* to be fixed. Maybe this is the avenue I should go, and perhaps do the detail work, inlay etc., myself. Because she has been damaged I realise her worth will never be what it was, so I have thought to do some luthier work on her. Im an artisan, pretty works :) However, the guitar I referenced isnt a 1111, my mistake. The 1111 I have popped into my head when I wrote it. I will have to go and take another looksee at the number.
I have an eBay store and have been on eBay for about 6 years. I have never seen one listed and I do look often.
I visited your website, beautiful guitars. Your site makes me want to go photo my own guitars...lol
I also have a 1982 collectors series, a 1988 collectors series, a 1528 ultra shallow cutaway in barnboard, and a 1111 in natural.

I have been reading some of the other threads again, I now know who keeps out bidding me on ovation guitars...lol. Ah well, keeps my non-guitar playing husband happy. Well, happier I guess, he is quite tolerant of my hobby. I developed advanced/advancing rhuematoid arthritus this summer and it has literally kicked my butt. But, being me I refuse to let it control my life anymore than neccesary, so...to keep my artistic hands as nimble as possible I have signed up for classical guitar lessons. My husband just smiled, he knows its just for me. I will never be what I consider a true guitarist. So tolerant works.
The teacher however wants me to play something else other than an ovation. Bummer... |

Location: Tennessee | I live in a rural area, the nearest big town is Jackson, TN. He is the only teacher here who works with classical players. I have not yet started, but will in January. I have to get through this holiday sales rush first with my store so I can feel that it is okay to just play the guitar.
I bought a classical guitar recently, just to have one to start with. But, it isnt just a classical, it is a work of art so just in case I force my views and just use a balladeer, which will probably be the case, it will be lovely to look at with the rest of my guitars. Gotta have an ulterior motive I guess...lol, just one more guitar cant hurt I keep saying.
I am not a good player, but my hands have always been nimble. I prefer finger picking to using a pick, and for some reason this has amazed my friends who are players. I have never had lessons, and play by ear. I would like to do more than "Puff the Magick Dragon" for my new grandchildren, and a whole lotta just my own fingerpicking sounds. *laughs*
Yh'all seem like such a nice group of folks. I cannot tell you how much of a wall I have faced in trying to find info on the guitars, or even to find anyone who loved them as I do. |
