I'm sending up a "trial balloon" here. Is anyone out there interested in having my '82 Collector's refurbished? Essentially, the top & abalone rosette need to be replaced. Kim & John told me the rosette alone was $300.00. Figure bowl/top replacement at about $450.00. This is #431 of 1900-or-so made. I don't have the original paperwork, but it could probably be reproduced at The MotherShip. Anyrate, I'm willing to pass this critter on, for what I've got in it- $300.00.
Actually, it plays great & all the electronics work fine, although I haven't tried it out in stereo, yet. Put on a new set of medium-lights yesterday. Pretty ballsy in the low end, and sharp & clean in the upper registers. The 5-piece neck's a bit deeper than my old 1111 & the 1127 refurb, but still has a nice action.
I'm just not in the position to invest more money into this instrument. Check out the images in my gallery. BTW, it's still got the original case with it.
I really don't think this is going to go on the auction block. I really want it to go to someone who will appreciate its historical significance, as the first in the Collector's series, and a damn fine instrument, technically.
The previous owner must have gigged with this thing for years. I can't tell if it's been refretted, but there's still "meat" left in the first-position area. The case looks to have some "heat bubbles", but the interior dimensions are fine. The seal in the neck-end is a bit "sprung", making the latch a bit stiff, but not impossible. I'll post some more images to illustrate these points.
