I didn't see the prototype that wasn't produced. Don't take the comments concerning which prototype was produced as an indictment on the 2006 Collectors.

I did see and play this model at NAMM. It is a great guitar (and with the new VIP-5). The KOA solid top with the tortoise shell binding (similar to the binding on the 2002 Collectors) - IMHO, very pretty. Some say they don't like KOA or other non-spruce - I like the KOA and mahogany...used to have a Tak mahogony 12-str, have the Martin D-25K2 (all KOA) and the Martin D-15S (mahogany). Gorgeous "voice".

This is a boomer...played it with all of the NAMM background noise (could actually hear it unlike most of the guitars), in the quiet room, and Matt Smith demo'd it in the quiet room plugged into a Genz Benz 100w Shenandoah.

Again, has the VIP-5!!

Check out Al's price.

Tony, this is the proto we're talking about... 12 fret, slothead, single offset hole.
I believe most of us preferred the sound of this one as well.

I thought both were boomers, but the one pictured above was the one I wanted. 12 fret cutaway slothead Koa,

Question, the new Koa collectors comes with the contour bowl or not? My memory is not so good today. mike

I would have bought the 12 fret. Don't have one of those yet... I like this one better than the 06, but haven't heard either.

Brad, his name is Norm.
KG, if I remember (have to check the DVD) both Norm & the 12-fretter were 'boomers'.

Who has the 12 fret pictured above? I'll trade my 1681 with the OpPro for it.

Al, can we order the 12 fret Koa, slothead, single hole? If so, I'll call you for a price.

Al,
You know why this went so far awry?

Among other things we were shown a couple examples of the possible 2006...that's right 2006, collectors model! Both have a fantastic Koa top. One had a slot head and a single, almost oval shaped hole in the upper bass bout. The other had a single, beautiful new style inlaid eppelet in the same location. We were the first civilians to see the guitars. Even the sales staff had not yet seen these guitars.
We were given lots of time to play them both and were then asked to give opinions on how they looked and played and suggestions on just what form the final guitar should look like. Lets just say that the group was very vocal and excited.

Maybe THIS THREAD should've bee a poll, and the Koallectors shouldv'e been a 12 fret slothead, but they did produce the 1680, although some of us didn't like the walnut epaulets.....
