Location: San Angelo, Texas | I wanted to find out if this guitar was manufactured with the ovation logo on the tuning machines or plain.
I was lucky to fine one of these limited issue guitars and bought it at a great price.
I wonder just how rare this model is.

I am thinking 5 or less but some others will chime in and correct me if I am wrong. |

Location: Tennessee | 6 were sold in the US through Lost Art Vintage. The tuners on mine are Schallers with the S logo and "Made in Germany". |

Location: Munich, Germany | Hi Art, depends on wether you bought one of the "original" reissues made for the japanese market or one of the custom order reissues made for the european market.
CLICK: 1651 RI
The custom order 1651 for Europe featured the lighter weight microsphere LX body, LX neck and - too bad - Ping tuners. Everything else was the same as the limited edition made for the japanese market.
But soundwise my 1651 RI is the best wooden top guitar I ever owned.

Location: Tennessee | I don't know how to tell exactly, but I believe mine has the new microsphere bowl ... and maybe even the LX neck system. The other thing on mine that is different that the others I've seen is that the center stripe on the neck is dark mahogany (matches the main neck wood) in the traditional wide strip laminations. All the others I've seen semm to have a very light center stripe. The one I got seems to be a couple of thousand units earlier than all of the others. |

Your description sounds like my version. I'll send pics to confirm sometime this weekend. I knew that this model was sent to Asia in very limited quantities, but I didn't know there was an European version.
Sound wise, it isn't as loud as my Breedlove AD20_SR_Plus, but it does have a rich full sound to it. What knocks me out about this guitar is the soundboard. The deep chestnut color is incredibly beautiful! I also like the nut width as it helps my speed quite a bit.
This will be a guitar that I'll pass on to my granddaughter one day. |
