Location: Scottsdale, AZ | I am dazed and confused.
Mid bowl, deep bowl, shallow bowl, artist bowl, toilet bowl.....
I am going to sell a couple of my guitars and don't know how to differentiate the bowls....
Is there a specific size in inches so I can measure the depth in order to describe? |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I think the current bowl sizes are described on the Ovation website. The artist bowl is in between the supershallow bowl and the mid bowl. I also think the artist bowl was the same as the shallow bowl, not to be confused with the supershallow bowl. I may be wrong on some of this, but I know that I could line up 4 different depths of mine on the wall and it was a noticeable progression from deep, mid, artist to supershallow. |

Location: Carle Place, NY | Mark did get it right, but I'm not sure that he completely answered your question Kerry. According to the Ovation website, you can "crack the code" of the model numbers to determine the bowl depth. However, there are many models that have numbers that don't make sense according to the code. Here's the general rules for the most common 6 string Ovation (not Adamas) models with a four digit model number:
x86x-Supershallow bowl w/cutaway
111x-Deep bowl (acoustic only)
161x-Deep bowl
166x-Deep bowl w/cutaway
171x-Deep bowl
176x-Deep bowl w/cutaway
x77x-Mid-depth bowl w/cutaway
162x-Artist bowl
Of course if you want a quick answer for the bowl depth of any model, simply post it here and our panel of experts (not necessarily me) will identify it. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | What I was referring to on the Ovation site was a diagram I recall seeing that showed an outline of the bowl depths and their measurements. I've never understood the model number codes. Perhaps because my first Ovation, model 1132, was confusing. |
